I have been concerned since he first posted here that he isn’t here to try to stay LDS. I couldn’t put my finger on why I felt that way; it simply was a nagging concern / suspicion. I think I know what it is now and just want to share it with all of you – NOT to suggest moderation in any way, but so everyone can be aware of a possible issue moving forward (and I mean only possible, since I can’t be sure).

He posted about his desire for a temple sealing cancellation, based entirely on a literal view of the sealing as binding no matter what his personal desire is regarding the relationship. Today, in his update post, he said that he “just had a thought” about asking for his name to be removed from the records of the Church in order to force a cancellation of his temple covenants – thus, getting the cancellation of the sealing.

He might be sincere and honest in that comment, but I have a hard time believing that he has gone through what he describes and that, only now after talking about it for a short time here, he suddenly had the new thought to have his name removed. It just doesn’t feel factual to me. I also am concerned that he has changed the scenario every time he has gotten push-back. For example, his current focus on “forced polygamy” in THIS life, not the afterlife – which makes absolutely no sense to me as a sudden change in wording. It’s like he realized he isn’t going to get what he hoped he would get when he started posting here, so he is changing the parameters of the discussion to keep it going.

I feel like he either is a troll who is looking to encourage people to remove their names from the rolls of the Church (which we have seen with a few participants here over the years) or that he has been considering having his removed for a while and is looking for people who will validate that choice – looking to outsource his own responsibility to make a decision, just like his insistence that everything will be rosy if only the Church cancels the sealing. I’m torn between the two scenarios, and I don’t want anyone in either situation to be able to say that we encourage people to leave the Church over an issue like that.

    Thoughts?

You could be right. A worthwhile caution.
