GuestObviously, there are extreme situations when loving and jumping ship can co-exist, but I love the following quote: Quote:The truth is that the more intimately you know someone, the more clearly you’ll see their flaws. That’s just the way it is. This is why marriages fail, why children are abandoned, why friendships don’t last. You might think you love someone until you see the way they act when they’re out of money or under pressure or hungry, for goodness’ sake. Love is something different. Love is choosing to serve someone and be with someone in spite of their filthy heart. Love is patient and kind, love is deliberate. Love is hard. Love is pain and sacrifice, it’s seeing the darkness in another person and defying the impulse to jump ship.
I just want to add that the exact same thing applies,
even more importantly sometimes, to self-acceptance. August 14, 2014 at 6:59 pm #288954Anonymous
GuestThis applies even if that “someone” is the church. August 14, 2014 at 7:27 pm #288955Anonymous
GuestI like it too, Ray. Where is it from/who said it? August 14, 2014 at 8:10 pm #288956Anonymous
GuestIt’s from someone named Kamryn originally, and it was picked up and reposted as a Facebook meme. I generally don’t quote things like that, but I was able to track it to its source. I also recognize that there are issues with the way it might be applied inappropriately (hence my disclaimer at the beginning of this post), but I really like the core message as a general statement.

GuestThat sounds like a lot like the kind of love I imagine God having for us. He sees our filthy hearts clearly, but wouldn’t abandon us. August 18, 2014 at 9:01 am #288958Anonymous
