I really honestly feel like doing that right now. I just lost this girl who was my best friend. It was over something stupid (We were sexting), but the friendship was becoming very toxic and depressing so we ended it. No, I ended it. Also, I’ve never had a girlfriend and I’m 20 already. I turn 21 in 2 weeks, actually. But also, I feel like all my peers are getting married, getting nice paying full time jobs having kids and all that good stuff. Meanwhile, I’m still in community college, living at home and working on transferring to a University. (That’s seriously all I have going for me right now). It’s not like I’m trying to throw myself a pity party, I just really feel this way and need some help. I’ve been seeing a Psychologist, and he seems like he’s really my only friend. He put me on Prozac for the depression, but things just seem like they’re getting worse. I just feel like there’s really no one in this world for me and I don’t feel like I exist anymore.

I am so sorry that you are going through all of this right now.

Have you been on the Prozac for very long? Sometimes while people are adjusting to antidepressants at first, the risk of suicidal thoughts can sometimes increase. It may also just not be the right medication for you, or the dosage may need to be adjusted, or sometimes a combination of meds may work better for some people. In my personal experience, it took some trial and error to find the right medication and dosage, but once we found out what worked for me, it really helped me feel like I was able to get my head above the water and breathe again. Please talk to your doctor ASAP and he can help you figure it out.

If you feel you are at risk of harming yourself before you can talk to your psychologist, please get help now. You can go to the ER or call the suicide prevention hotline 1-800-273-8255. There are people that care about you and things can get better. Hang in there.

Will, go to this website, right now, and call the number. Someone there will listen to you and help you.

If you don’t want to do that (which I REALLY hope you will) call you psychologist friend right now.

willb, this is serious. You must contact your Psychologist & let him know what you’re going through.

It sounds like you trust his opinions & expertise. Use him.

We aren’t counselors. You need to talk with someone who can give you professional help. Immediately.

He hasn’t viewed the website again since the 6th. That is worrying.

I of course agree that this information needs to be shared with your psychologist.

    two thoughts:

    1) It does get better. The young adult years are transitional and stressful but they don’t last forever.

    2) Almost everyone find someone for marriage/long term relationship eventually. It didn’t happen for me until I was 25.

Hang in there until your life has a chance to turn that corner.

    Your friend,

    Roy

One of my best friends (He served a mission in my ward right after I joined) and when he went home he had depression and was prescribed Zoloff, he got worse and committed suicide, having left behind a young wife and a couple of young kids. I called his family on Christmas morning and was told the news. We all cried for an hour sharing stories by phone.

Suicide is so tragic and so uneccesary.

Yeah, I’m hoping willb is doing OK. Since none of us know him personally, we won’t know how he’s doing until he responds.
