GuestA friend of mine is on the high council in his stake and just posted the following announcement publicly. I thought everyone here would like to know about it: Quote:ATTENTION Seattle-area Mormons:
The Washington Park Ward of the Seattle North Stake is hosting a special Sacrament meeting one week from this Sunday. A letter from the Bishopric was mailed this past week to less active members within the ward boundaries. An excerpt:
“Our ward includes members from diverse backgrounds and experiences. We would love for you to add your personal experience to ours.
We anticipate there are many gay and lesbian individuals in our boundaries. As it can be intimidating to return to church when there have been painful past experiences, we are taking an approach of “strength in numbers” by inviting you to attend a special service. On Sunday, October 19 at 1 pm, Mitch Mayne, an openly gay member and former executive secretary in the San Francisco Bay ward, will be speaking in our sacrament meeting.
Our hope is that by attending church, you will see how many brothers and sisters you have in the gospel of Jesus Christ living near you. If you know of some whom we may be unaware of, please, invite them too. There is a large community of members, gay and straight, who have yet to meet each other.
Please come join us. Your faith and your fellows need your strength, your testimony and your unique perspective on our gospel. You will be valued and welcomed as a part of our ward family.”
If anyone reading this is in the area, and would like to attend, feel free to contact me, and I’ll give you more information about location. I’m also happy to answer any questions people have. Thank you.
For this group, if anyone is in the Seattle area and wants more information, send me a Private Message. I will connect you to my friend.
