GuestSunbelt – Thank you. That is beautiful. I find no critique. I am homebound, which has it’s benefits, this will be my Sacrament Talk for tomorrow. Good luck with it tomorrow. You will do great.

GuestThat is beautiful. You develop some themes I first learned from the Givens and has become an important help for me to StayLDS. Thank you for sharing. My only concern is how orthodox members would respond to citing the Givens and Ted Talks. You have many more quotations from “official sources” so hopefully they won’t object. Let us know how it went.

Dash I had the same thought as I was replaying the talk in my head this past hour. I think Sunbelt you could insert “LDS Historian” before the Givens name. It’s accurate and if anyone flinched they would be doing so on a technicality. On the TED talk, I would just say, “Persons name” said ….. If anyone complains use the C.S. Lewis excuse. “G.A.’s use C.S. Lewis all the time.” or “Thomas Monson told a story about a Methodist man who was a service leader in General Conference.”

GuestThanks for the feedback. I will put in LDS Historians in front of the Givens, that is a good call. I thought the really edgy part was my comment about white shirts

If a very Orthodox member listens and their only complaint is that I quoted some non-typical sources, I’ll call it a win

GuestI make a similar white shirt comment all the time – including in my talk tomorrow. Don’t worry about it. November 17, 2014 at 5:24 pm #291869Anonymous
GuestHow’d it go? How do you feel about it? November 17, 2014 at 5:52 pm #291870Anonymous
GuestIt went Ok. Speaker ahead of me went 10-12 minutes over so I had to condense on the fly. It felt rushed, and if you can’t tell I like to slow build into my key takeaways. So not sure how it came across. I probably chopped half to 2/3rd’s of my talk. My comment about white shirts got the axe :silent: I got some nice compliments, but you never know sometimes how sincere they are. It was also a ward that we lived in for our first three years in this area. Lots of friends still there, so pretty easy going crowd.
