One of my favorite hymns, even before faith transition is Where Can I Turn for Peace. It’s author was Emma Lou Thayne. She stands up in the pantheon of Claudia Bushman, Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, Chieko Okazaki, and Juanita Brooks. Heaven gained her and I will miss her.

If you own the book A Thoughtful Faith – read her essay about the swing.

Honestly I didn’t know about Emma Lou Thayne, but having read about her from the posts you linked, I wish I had.

    Thank you for sharing!

She was a wonderful woman. That also is one of my favorite hymns.

I had seen the headline on the Deseret News site and just ignored it thinking she was only of local fame. Where Can I turn For Peace is also one of my favorites.

I got to know her writings much too late! I think it was she who talked about “the downtown church.” That helped me, for some reason, to put some appropriate distance between myself and the institution.
