This statement hit close to home for me, and I’ve seen similar sentiments here on the forums:
Quote:
‘It was the most devastating moment of my life,’ he told me. ‘I wish to this day that I could find the holy grail that proves that I’m wrong, that it’s all true.’
I don’t know any Hasidics, but I do know some unbelieving Jews. They stay for the same reason some of us do – because it’s their culture, the only thing they know. Anything else is too unfamiliar.
That does seem to parallel the same as many LDS experiences.
As I have mentioned, my FC did have that free-fall moment, but I didn’t crash all the way to atheist and in fact I can’t say for sure I feel that the LDS church is all bunk. I can say that I feel a BUNCH of it is.
