The attached picture is the dress that I’ve seen debated on the Internet.

I would say…the dress is pretty ugly. You can’t debate that. But actually the debate is about the color of the dress.

What color do you see the dress is?

How is it possible in your mind that one thing…a dress, which is independent of any of our ideas but is what it is…how can people not agree on the color?

How does that apply to your testimony of the church?

(Yes…this topic has to do with my avatar of the prism, and also my tagline from Obi-Wan)

It’s not so much the color of the dress, it’s that we don’t want to accept that others may see things differently. Maybe we don’t want to be wrong, we don’t want to be the odd man out. Maybe we want our perspective to be validated or we want other people to understand our perspective. When others don’t see it our way we re-explain our position to make our perspective known, maybe more forcefully than the first time in hopes that a raised voice might change the outcome. ;)

This is one of those where I can see it both ways. So take your pick. :P

This one drove me nuts for the longest time (link so as to not make people go crazy while they try to read the thread):

    Spinning Dancer

Which direction is the dancer spinning? No matter how hard I tried I only ever saw the dancer spinning in the one direction. I didn’t doubt that other people could see it spinning the other direction but but I wanted to be able to see it for myself. It took a long time. Same thing with those magic eye things. I could never see them but others could. I didn’t argue that they couldn’t but I sure did wear myself out trying to get it to work. The fact that other people could do something I couldn’t ate at me. I wanted the 3D picture to appear so bad that it never did. I can see them now, but to me the principle is the same. I want someone else’s perspective NOW but sometimes it just can’t be forced.

I see she spins clockwise. I can’t see another way. Someone might have to teach me to see it different.

As far as the dress goes…some people say white and gold. I don’t see how it can be white.

Here’s the “solution” to the spinning dancer:

    Spinning dancer, color coded solution

It really messes with your brain when you can go back to the original image and make it switch back and forth without diverting your gaze. It’s really hard (for me).

    Re: The dress

How I reasoned it. The middle image could be a white dress but in a shadow… or it could be a light blue dress.

    Rule 34?

Good point though. I’ve created links to images on hosting sites before and the images changed out from under me. 😮 The link works now though.

Same dress seen through differing light.

It’s a great analogy to religion and faith/knowledge. Too bad most people won’t recognize it.
