GuestI guess I am growing up in the ward, over the past two days I have been sent activation requests. I approved one, but today’s concerns me. I want to be charitable and inviting but I wanted your opinions before I hit the okay button. Here is his request. Quote:
A new account, owned by “cohen14722”, has just been created – you shouldcheck the details of this user (if required) and handle it appropriately.
The justification they gave for their activation is as follows:
I’m am a life-long LDS member that is currently facing DC over a blog post
on mormonverse.

GuestI activated that account a few hours ago. 😳 When I first noticed that activation requests were starting to come in I was initially apprehensive about being the guy to approve them. What if I’m the one that lets in a troublemaker?

I figure everyone deserves a chance and I won’t know the direction the person will take until they submit their first post. That first post has to be approved as well so that’s really a better window into what a person is after.
Today my philosophy is to just filter out the people wanting to create an account so they can sell bootleg movies. Well that and maybe anyone that’s made it apparent that they have an axe they want to grind in their reason for joining paragraph.

He’s being disciplined for a comment made on the mormonverse blog or he’s the author of the mormonverse blog?
Edited– Sorry, I hadn’t seen the post to approve before I wrote that. I wonder if “someone” could talk with her/them and feel out how they would interact here. Truth be told, I wish it was Kirk Van Allen requesting to add because he seems more temperate. March 30, 2015 at 8:43 pm #297154Anonymous
GuestSounds great. Growing up can be so scary. Thanks. March 30, 2015 at 8:57 pm #297155Anonymous
GuestOh, famous people.
I haven’t kept up with the Van Allen story. I haven’t read one stitch of info; I’ve got no opinion but I do feel the concern.

GuestWe will have to be VERY careful about this one. The only comment thus far was to tell me it was Lindsay Van Allen and that their situation is over the blog post and nothing more. I deleted it, but I did add a comment of my own mentioning that I forget it’s BYU-Idaho – which is very different than the normal Mormon world.

I’m not up on all the details, but I think they recently moved to Missouri. So the timing of which leaders did/said what when is unclear to me. I do believe, though, that they were not on anyone’s radar or under any kind of watch until this blog.

Please help me understand why the post might have needed to be deleted? Is the whole Lindsay Van Allen thing just a can of worms or do we think that cohen14722 isn’t who they say they are or is it something else entirely?

Guesthmm. I should probably check the email associated with my account here more frequently…. March 31, 2015 at 12:40 am #297160Anonymous
GuestRoy, I deleted the comment simply because It was a one-off from a non-participant and would have needed concrete verification – and because of the chance that it was a trolling comment by sue/wornoutsneakers. If it was Sister Van Allen, she has been approved and can comment regularly. I am planning on researching the email a bit and, if it looks legit, sending an email asking if she wants to participate actively.
