GuestWhat do you all think? I’m willing to go back to civilian status. I love that you trusted me enough to do this, but I don’t and probably won’t ever do the technical stuff and I think we look like a more vibrant site if discussions aren’t being had mostly between red and green names. If you don’t think that’s an issue, I’ll keep things as they are. Just wanted to put it out there.

GuestAnn, That thought has been running through my mind as well. Most of the regular participants are all mods.
I’m flattered as well but I know enough about me to know I’m very laid back, I doubt I’d be good at calling someone out. I’m fairly spineless that way. Sure, I’d jump in for the terrible things but… well just ask DW. She’ll tell you all about my lack of disciplining skills.
I could do the IP sniffing homework but I’m pretty lame with busting out the paddle.
The one thing, I’d severely miss the second level interactions that occur on the Board Discussion forum.
Now I have to flip over to contradiction mode. The greens and the reds are visible to all visitors and I think that’s part of the point. The more mods there are the more diversity people see through the interactions that we have. In some ways our posts become examples of the mission of staylds but in another way we are showing that it’s okay to have a difference of opinion. We just need more difference in opinion.

There. Fence successfully straddled.

GuestAnn, it’s an interesting point and one I was thinking about when I started the thread of set boundaries. As I follow the different blogs and sites on the internet I see them all stabilizing to whatever makes a person comfortable. It shows the variance of pain and support that exist. I don’t think we are any different. I believe the storm of the past decade has subsided a bit. There really won’t be any new discoveries for a bit. The stones that have been overturned are still in process, but the energy of initialness is past. That means that for us we won’t have tons of new people with public discussion needs – IMHO. But I think we have a lot of lurkers. I don’t think they look at the colors at all. They are looking for the conversations. Whether we input in color or plain – we are offering assistance. I personally like our team, and would miss something if you returned. Your calm is a huge gift on both sides of the forum.

GuestI’ll admit that I have thought about this, too. It does sometimes seem that all the comments are red or green names. On the other hand, that may not be a bad thing – we were asked because we epitomize the mission of StayLDS (at least that’s what I like to think). I actually expected cwald to bring that up over on NOM – there are so many mods here. He didn’t, of course, because his vendetta is against Ray. So I think I fall in the camp of it’s a good thing. I’m not sure the lurkers see the colors, and since we don’t moderate all that much I don’t think most casual users notice, either. I’m not sure our job as green names is so much to be the heavy hitters, I think it’s more to help direct the conversations – and quite frankly I think each of us do that pretty well. GuestInteresting thoughts. Interesting as well that it was on a lot of our minds. DarkJedi wrote:I actually expected cwald to bring that up over on NOM – there are so many mods here. He didn’t, of course, because his vendetta is against Ray.
I noticed that over at NOM cwald shifted his focus away from Ray and started directing his comments towards the “mods.” Mods plural. Sure he’d drop hints here and there that it was mostly Ray (sorry Ray) but over time he started complaining about the mods, not one specific individual. I see that as a good thing. There’s no need for one individual to bear the brunt of this, keep him guessing.
Besides I think we might still be one person short of a minyan.

Your feeble attempt at the Jedi mind trick is not going to get me to go look at that thread!
(Remember, it only works on the weak minded – which is perhaps why it works for cwald so well over there. Did I just type that out loud?)

GuestI do think it’s good for visitors and others to see the greens and reds, even if mostly as an example of the comments that are accepted here. May 13, 2015 at 8:36 pm #299271Anonymous
GuestPersonally, I like that we have a lot of mods, and I wouldn’t change a thing. It takes some of the pressure off, and several of the old timer mods have had to step back due to other commitments. I would just say let’s hold on for 2-3 months and see where we land. May 13, 2015 at 9:53 pm #299272Anonymous
GuestMy input is that we benefit from female mods and the perspective and balance from that. If we feel we have too many, I’d rather step out and leave Ann and mom3 to moderate rather than lose their input. The discussion on garments highlighted to me how good it is to have that perspective.
I agree with HG. Let’s evaluate for a bit more…but if we feel we should reduce the mod group…I think you should consider asking me to relinquish mod access before Ann or mom3 or HG.

No Way Sista – I need you too much.
I stalk your posts on BCC and Wheat and Tares.
This board would crash if I was left helming it. We would get ice cream though to soften the landing.

GuestOkay, that was exactly where I didn’t want the conversation to go. Heber and hawkgrrrl, I think we really need you. May 14, 2015 at 2:11 am #299276Anonymous
GuestWe initially talked about adding mods in order to create opportunities like this to discuss important topics and have a more balanced perspective. The conversation about cwald is a great example. That has been invaluable to me, personally. Also, it shows the lurkers and occasional visitors that the official view here is not one person’s (mine) – and that is extremely important, imo.
Don’t feel ANY pressure to moderate in a formal manner. Just having your comments as someone in that capacity is enough.
