I have read Agnosticmormon’s posts at NOM (where he is a moderator) in the past, and I don’t see him as a bad fit here. He is certainly one of the more moderate posters there. From that point of view I don’t have a problem approving him as a member. In a way I hope this little stunt by cwald does bring some posters there here – I have said previously that some of them would fit nicely here and offer yet even more diversity. That said, I’m not sure I like the post in the queue in and of itself. I think it is honest enough in answering the question, yet I don’t think we need to blow that up any more here and I don’t want the type of conversation they’ve had there happening here. I think we’ve taken the higher road by not going there and not stooping to that level. Maybe I’m not reading it objectively enough, but I’m having a hard time separating this particular post as anything more than bringing the NOM conversation here.
So is that why we’re sitting on it, or are we ignoring it, or have others just not noticed it? Do others think it should be approved or not approved? If it is not to be approved, is it possible to reach out to Agnosticmormon and explain why, but welcome him to post something else? Or would that only verify cwald’s accusation about heavy moderation here and drive him away?
I say we throw this one to Hawkgrrl. Ray right now is their main target, and cwald has stirred up a hornets nest that really doesn’t need to continue. Hawkgrrl can read then decide. I want discussion, but not an online war, and this has a small sense of that – to me. Where is his introduction post? I’m not seeing it. I answered Red Ryder’s question on the NOM thread. Reminiscing about awkward youth interviews is kind of silly… Not really contra our mission, nor is it a very sincere expression of his intent to stay on mission. Is that what you meant? I finally found it. It doesn’t seem confrontational to me, and I think it would be a show of good faith or friendship across board lines to approve it and see how things go. But I’m definitely not tuned in to all the issues and players enough to feel strongly about it. Related issue : Maybe the line on our logo – “Discussing alternate ways to stay in the church” – could be reconsidered. “Alternate” doesn’t seem like quite the right word, and then “stay” getting said twice. Maybe “Discussing the Latter-day faith journey.” Saying “the” journey suggests that there is an “LDS way” to approach it. Just a thought – I’m not pushing it.
I like the idea of revisiting that logo line. I am okay approving him, but I would like Hawk or someone known at NOM to reach out and make he will respect our mission and rules of civility.

I think the post was fine – agnosticmormons says she had registered a long time ago and occasionally lurked but not posted here. I’m not that worried about her. her – sorry Her comment was fine in bear’s post about alternatives to StayLDS. Let’s see if she continues to contribute, or if she just wanted to post about NOM in that thread. I think she will be respectful, so I have no problem with her being here.
