Today’s Deseret News piece features Blair Hodges review and small sermon on being present in this life. It’s the perfect Sunday Sermon to me. Enjoy.

Marilynne Robinson is known as an author who writes about religion .. But not in the way you would immediately think. Her book Gilead was slow at first. It is the story of an old Iowa preacher and the pace of the book capture the pace of his life — nothing happens fast. But, you will realize that the book is worthy of your time. She wrote another two books set in the same place. Lila is the story of the preacher’s wife. Home is the story of his friend’s children. It is a prodigical son story. Each is a treasure in its own way. Robinson won the Pulitzer for fiction in 2005. She doesn’t publish often, but when she does the literary world takes note.

She and her books are worthy of a Sunday review that feels like a small sermon.

Awsome! Thanks for bringing this up!

One advantage of participating in this forum is that I am never at a loss for what books I can read to increase my knowledge and stir my soul.

I really loved “Gilead,” and “Home” just a little less.

Lila was my favorite. Then Gilead. I read Lila first .. And it was a wonderful surprise to discover Gilead.

Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt is a book that is a wonderful commentary on the importance of family acceptance and communication. It isn’t about religion .. It is more LGBT in focus .. But it is a book that as given me so much to think about.
