GuestI have a flood of accounts to activate in my inbox? Does anyone else? I haven’t activated any because I am suddenly wary of the onslaught. If everyone else has activated them, no problem. Just asking.

GuestI assume it’s because it’s posted at mormonstories that “StayLDS is reporting…..” I don’t know if I’m on the junior plan, but I get no requests to my inbox. I’m not complaining, but I’m just not sure how it works. Really doesn’t matter to me, but I would like to help if I’m supposed to be.

GuestThanks Ann – I am new to getting these requests. I have read all the bio’s. Knowing that LDS politics is at a high I am going to leave the decisions to Heber, Orson, Ray and Hawkgrrl. June 30, 2015 at 7:42 pm #301757Anonymous
GuestOkay, I could use some clarification. I just approved leftrightcoast’s post. ?
Reiterating, I don’t care, but if I can help, I will. It would be nice to take advantage of an upsurge in interest and quickly/carefully as possible bring in some new members.
I won’t do anything else until I hear.

GuestGenerally, we look for their intro to explain why they are a fit for the site. We want them to “get it” when it comes to faith crisis, and we also want them to be positive about staying LDS. We want to avoid SMSC trolls. June 30, 2015 at 7:54 pm #301758Anonymous
GuestRead the intro messages and approve if you think they look reasonable. There is no magic wand, and we always can take administrative action later, if necessary. If you have any questions, don’t approve them and ask in this forum.

GuestUhm, yeah, also I generally just delete every request and assume Ray will get them, but that’s similar to my kids’ strategy for doing the dishes. Today I just stepped up to the plate, thanks to Ann’s message. June 30, 2015 at 8:57 pm #301761Anonymous
GuestI approve most of the registrations still. There’s no secret to it really. Anyone else can do it. Main thing is to read the justification text. If they sound like a Mormon with some relationship to the topic of our site, I generally approve them. If they only say something short and vague like “Interested in discussion” or anything that is too generic, they are either a spammer or they don’t care enough to follow directions. If they don’t care, neither do I
So I delete the registration. I decided a couple years ago it was no longer worth contacting everyone. Delete … move on.

GuestRoadrunner’s post on StayLDS was advertized heavily today. I saw it on NOM and several closed facebook groups. Fair warning, I did a search and the “breaking news” also showed up on the exmormon reddit. June 30, 2015 at 9:00 pm #301763Anonymous
GuestIs there some news event driving traffic to our site? I also noticed a sharp increase in registrations. I also received a notice from the hosting company about a large spike in resources used. I will check on that later, was assuming it was a new attack or probe. Maybe something in legitimate in the news? June 30, 2015 at 9:01 pm #301764Anonymous

And it’s at mormondiscussion.org – terrestrial forum. Or maybe it’s discussionS.June 30, 2015 at 9:03 pm #301765Anonymous

I read this in the training thread:
Quote:4. All newly activated accounts
go into a special categorythat prohibits their posts from going live to the public. A moderator must read the post (or one of their posts) and “approve” it. This is a basic reality and sanity check. We catch most problematic people in this stage before they cause problems on the board. We almost always try to contact them and “coach” them if we think they need to help adjusting to the community. After 1 post is manually approved by a Moderator, all future posts go live immediately to public view.
Where/what is that special category? Is it just “Main”/”Front page” of this?June 30, 2015 at 9:06 pm #301766Anonymous
GuestJust checked out Roadrunner’s post. Wow. Tough position to be put in. Cool? Are we a groundbreaking news source now?

GuestRoadrunner shared a FP letter that is to be read to the members on either July 5th or 12th that is in relation to the SCOTUS ruling. The news essentially broke here and the thread was linked. I’m sure the thread was shared from site to site as many people participate on several forums. June 30, 2015 at 9:10 pm #301768Anonymous

Where/what is that special category? Is it just “Main”/”Front page” of this? The “Moderator Control Panel” is a link you will see on the main forum page. You can check that for new topics from new users that need approval.
The “special category” is all automated by the forum software. Don’t worry too much about that. All new users must have a single post reviewed and manually approved by a moderator (using the moderator control panel). All their posts are held from public view until one post is approved. Moderators can see the posts. The public can not. After that approval, all their existing posts and future posts go straight to public view.
