My daughter initiated a party at our home last weekend. It involved a fire and a movie projected on a fence.

She made sure I met every one of her friends –both non-members from her work, and a lot of church members. I have to say — I was impressed. They didn’t blare loud music and upset neighbors. Some were in couples, but there was no making out and pairing off. They had intelligent comments and socially adroit mannerisms. Although we didn’t impose a curfew it ended at about 11:00 pm, which is my daughter’s curfew. A non-member stayed the night and then went to church with my daughter and is now planning to take the missionary discussions.

It is both a reflection of my daughter’s character, and the standards that youth abide by. Yes, there are some unhealthy attitudes, but it’s experiences like this that help me see the bright side of our organization. I hope my son adopts these standards in some fashion, whether accompanied with activity or not…:)

Many other churches would be ecstatic to have youth as well behaved and driven as our LDS youth tend to be. WoW, Law of Chastity, Missionary service, the list goes on and on.

yes…there are bright sides which is why it keeps rolling forward. At times I think there must be something divine tothe church or the leaders and members would have killed it off many generations ago. 🙂 It’s interesting there can be good things AND ALSO the bad stuff that is there. Youth really do well with the structure the church provides, perhaps better than free thinking adults who at my age over-think and over-question stuff.

On the flip side, we live in an area where there are so few youth in our ward, all our kids hang out with school friends who are not members. And they are all amazing kids with good parents…and haven nothing to do with mormonism…just good people.

I’ve been impressed by the number of talented youth in our ward.

(This is probably true church wide.)

There are a number of youth that musically talented & share their talents often.

Some are good with painting & photography.

Recently our dog died. My HT’s daughter painted her portrait.

Some are good at sports or dance.

I don’t remember this many talented youth people my 1st time around.
