We don’t often celebrate such amazement, but today is Star Wars release day and it just doesn’t seem right to ignore the Jedi in our presence. Thanks DJ.

Thanks, I didn’t see this until this morning – probably because I was at the movie. It’s great. If you see parallels with the church in the old stories you will see them in this movie as well. I will likely see it again and there are a couple quotes I want to share – but I don’t want to spoil anything for anybody! May the Force be with you all!

This might be better in the “thought for the day”, but given it is Star Wars related I figured I would post it here.

It is the quote in Heber’s signiture

    Quote:

Luke: “Why didn’t you tell me? You told me Vader betrayed and murdered my father.”

Obi-Wan: “Your father… was seduced by the dark side of the Force. He ceased to be Anakin Skywalker and became Darth Vader. When that happened, the good man who was your father was destroyed. So what I told you was true… from a certain point of view.”

Luke: “A certain point of view?”

Obi-Wan: “Luke, you’re going to find that many of the truths we cling to…depend greatly on our point of view.”

Thanks, DJ. I wish I could get my family to put this off til after Christmas, but may have no choice but to brave the traffic and crowds. You’re saying it’s worth it?

With the caveat that I am a huge fan, yes it’s worth it.

    I will see it, eventually.

Loved the first three; the second three were bleh; have heard great things about this one from people I trust on the topic.

Glad we have our Jedi here, even if his light saber is a different color than many others’.

We had a lot of fun, but I’m just getting hip to the tremendous amount of controversy generated by the movie-makers’ choices. You could spend all day reading reviews and opinion pieces about it all. Amazing.

We’re not going to feed into the marketing beyond the movie tickets we just bought, but can I just say that it was TOTALLY WORTH IT to see Rey in action. Our girls, without any prompting from us, talked most of the way home about how different she was. Now I am worried about the next two; I hope they don’t mess her up.

I know there’s more to Star Wars than how they’re portraying women and girls, but this was just so refreshing I had to post about it.

I have decided to approach it much the same way I approach the scriptures – take it for what it is. I personally like the movie very much and think it’s one of the best of all of them (rivaling The Empire Strikes Back). I have never put much stock in critics anyway – I tend to love movies they hate and hate movies they love. And, the fan boys are still having trouble with letting go of the old canon which I also didn’t buy into beyond what was in the movies anyway.

Rey is a Star Wars hero and I say “you go girl!”

The Force Awakens may still be riding a high of being new/novel but having only seen it once (I know people that have already seen it several times 😯 ) I’d say that it’s my favorite SW movie to date. I’ll refrain from discussing specific story elements so as to not spoil it for people but I will say: 1) the story is nothing to write home about, that’s not the movie’s strength 2) it’s the acting and character intros/development that did it for me. This is the first movie in 30+ years that actually feels like a SW movie.

There’s a certain nostalgia factor in bringing back some of the characters/vehicles from the original trilogy but IMO the new characters were the ones that made the film. Rey resurrected SW.

I don’t really remember there being very many quotable moments, at least not like the original trilogy. Maybe this one (spoilers but not really below):

Finn: We’ll figure it out, we’ll use the force.

Han Solo: That’s not how the force works.

I agree there weren’t tons of quotes worth repeating but I liked this one from Maz:

    Quote:

The light — it’s always been there. It’ll guide you.

I saw it and generally liked it. I liked the actors they chose for various roles, particularly the heroin (did I spell that right? Not to imply I took heroin at the movie 😆 )

I’m never a big fan of seeing old, famous characters brought into sequels after they have aged. To me, it’s kind of like seeing your favorite band as a teenager do a reunion. Some can’t sing anymore, they lost their looks. It means the group’s magic is not eternal — And in movies it can seem trite…

But it worked this time, for the most part.

I wonder, at what point can a person talk specifics about a new movie? Without spoiling it for everyone? Maybe I should set up a private chat about it with people so we can discuss it…people who have already seen it.

How about in the book and media reviews board? If you venture there presumably you’d be expecting a review, right? No crying over spoiled plots over there.

Good point. Still wouldn’t mind hearing what others here thought about it. Am keeping track of who has seen it and will post a private message for discussion in case anyone wants to talk about it. I have some opinions and insights.
