Anyone know what happened there? I got about 10 emails to reactivate it. I did click the reactivation link and the message said the account was already activated.

I poked around the “User Logs” in the Administration Control Panel. Rob4Hope changed his e-mail address several times. As I found out, if you change your e-mail address the site automatically disables your account and you have to wait for someone to come along and reactivate it.

The email changes that Rob4Hope made are telling, all variants of “i_am_gone” or “i_have_left”. I believe he ended up settling back on his original e-mail address but the e-mail address changes make me think he’s going through a rough time. 😥

Changing the email address on the account triggers that security procedure — admin approval. It’s there to make it harder for hackers to hijack an account. It’s usually fine. People sometimes change their email accounts. But I think it is a good feature to keep in place.

I did send him a PM assuring him it was nothing we purposely did. Since PM notifications go to his email, he may not know he has one. So that brings up a question. I reactivated the account on the earliest message I got. It would seem likely then that the account is activated with whatever email he had on file at that particular time? And does it matter because his username/password would remain the same?

I don’t disagree that he may be having a rough time of late, he has been far less active than he was previously. On the other hand, we haven’t had as much sex talk which seems to be his favorite topic. However, once he changed his email and couldn’t log in because his account was deactivated he could have been changing emails trying to get back in thinking perhaps we blocked him and perhaps believing we block by email address. When I have a moment I’ll try to send him an email at whatever address is currently linked to his account. He doesn’t need to know how we really block, but I think the explanation that the reason for the deactivation was him changing his email and not an action on our part is probably good for him.

And I agree that the changing email safety protocol should remain in place.

Thanks, DJ. That is a good action plan.

Rob may be similar to Shawn who through the years came and went and seemed frustrated and offended, yet you can clearly see they are trying to work through something and that needed support is what we are here for.

However, we can’t hold his hand too much and PM him or stroke him if he decides to go inactive for a while. At least I can’t. He has issues to work through that go beyond faith. We should just make sure any posts and comments he makes are responded to so that lurkers and readers see our approach as we support people, and that we don’t want all conversations to go towards sex all the time.

I will go easy on him for a while seeing he may be struggling. Likely easiest for me to not respond to him directly.

I’m glad we have a group of us to help moderate, since it is hard for me to be patient sometimes. Good job everyone. Sorry I can’t do more.
