GuestA small, but positive step. Elder Richard J. Maynes of the presidency of the Seventy referenced the essay on the first vision accounts in his Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults tonight. Further, he did an analysis of the differences on the first vision accounts. May 2, 2016 at 3:04 pm #311333Anonymous
GuestHere’s a story The Salt Lake Tribune is running: http://www.sltrib.com/home/3843144-155/mormon-leader-differing-versions-of-joseph ” class=”bbcode_url”> http://www.sltrib.com/home/3843144-155/mormon-leader-differing-versions-of-joseph This conclusion:
Quote:“It is a blessing to have these accounts,” he said. ” … They together tell Joseph’s consistent, harmonious story.”
has a lot of people scratching their heads this morning.
Quote:“When an individual retells an experience in multiple settings to different audiences over many years,” the essay states, “each account will emphasize various aspects of the experience and contain unique details.”
I think the people that are taking issue with this statement would point out that they are more concerned with the differences in some of the main story elements.
Kudos for making the issue much more visible. I suppose providing a sanctioned conclusion is a part of the job description.

I wish he had done something to “validate” the person who believes the later accounts were, to some extent and not without good intention, fabricated.

GuestI am happy it was mentioned and analyzed. That wouldn’t have happened in my youth (or even a few years ago) and is a positive step in the right direction.
