Some musings on how Mormon culture feels and looks different depending on where you are in the tent. http://www.wheatandtares.org/21958/from-pillar-to-post/

    I liked it.

This reminds me of 2 different musings.

One is Jeff Burton’s http://forthosewhowonder.com/” class=”bbcode_url”>http://forthosewhowonder.com/ talking about being in the borderlands of Mormonism.

The other is Armand Mauss’ book “Shifting Borders and a Tattered Passport: Intellectual Journeys of a Mormon Academic.” He talks about going into the “core” of Mormonism and keeping a passport that will allow him to enter, but also be able to go “out” from Mormonism and look at it like someone outside would see. Him doing both made both “sides” a bit suspicious of his motives/beliefs/loyalties.

Where does Hawkgrrrl get all these ideas for her many (great) posts?

That book by Armand is a treasure. He echos so many things I have thought. I relate to much of his comments about the church. I wish I had the time to quote some passages — you will see how he walks a fine line between criticism and support of the church. His use of language is brilliant.

SD – You and I are both on the same page here.

He seems to have a Spock-like quality to see things as they are and describe them.

I would love to meet him, but I do realize he is getting up in years. I didn’t hear if he went to sunstone this last year.
