I was there. It was cool. Interesting that they had us all stand for the govna when he left. Nearly barfing while tearing out moldy Sheetrock and wet insulation was still more fulfilling than going to a normal 3 hour block for me.

I like the quick line from woman who had Helping Hands people already at work in her house when the camera came by.

“They’re knockin’ it out.”

I hear pretty cynical comments in some quarters about Helping Hands and church service in general. But this little scene resonates more with me. Time and time again my experience is that members of the church are willing to be there for people without the cameras – gettin’ it done.

Agreed. Just like warts on someone’s face, they draw attention and we call can agree it is hard to un-see some of them. But when you get to rub shoulders with those willing to wake up at 3 AM on Saturday morning and give up and entire weekend sweating in a moldy smelly house – you realize in almost everyone – even the most TBMer – there is a good heart in there. You can help but love them. I am going for a second weekend. As I have said before, I LOVE giving this type of service. I enjoy it more than going to church by a long shot. Other than being physically tired, emotionally “my cup was filled” last weekend.
