GuestI thought of this talk today. It is comforting to me to let go of my irrational desire to know everything. Somethings are learned in the messy journey. Bro Jarvis uses the traveling salesman problem to illustrate why we must not try to reach perfection before choosing to act good enough.
Here are my notes from it.

GuestI see potential in the talk and hopefully it will garner new thoughts and discussions. Its a good beginning. My favorite part is the talent section. I also do appreciate the idea that we can let go of leaders being perfect. Now if we could just spread the idea to the entire membership. Then we would be getting somewhere. I think it is great that this was a BYU address. A glimmer of hope.

GuestThanks Rich. Two things struck me:
“Admit and accept imperfection”
I like that idea, something I’ve worked on a lot and tried to let go of perfectionism that held me back.
The other idea:
Quote:Fear Causes Failure
The real key is learning to trust that a little water splashing in your face does not mean you are drowning. It may not be what we imagine to be perfect floating, but it is good enough. Even going completely below the water is not failure—if you remain relaxed, a gentle hand motion quickly brings you back up to the top. But as soon as you become nervous, you try to sit up, and you will sink.
What is “good enough” in my life? It’s hard for me to answer.
I also think failure can be survived…not always avoided. Sometimes it can be avoided. It is taxing to try very hard to avoid failures, but accept them when they come. I guess I just keep swimming.
