GuestAbsolutely great. I sure wish the one line of “maybe our gay daughters wife could bring our daughter back to the church”. December 7, 2016 at 12:07 pm #316153Anonymous
GuestA member of our stake presidency, who has a lesbian niece who grew up in our ward, shared this story in our recent stake conference. It is a great story. FWIW, he did not say this in his talk, but he told me when I thanked him that he was assigned to speak on the topic by the visiting authority. He also said the Area Authority assigned the talk topic when we reviewed stake conference in stake council. He said his sister pointed him to this story.
We also discussed the church Mormon and Gay site at that council. Some members of the council expressed their initial discomfort at the talk, and somewhat to my surprise one member of the council admitted having no idea that the church’s stance on gays is what it is. That ended up being a good thing for her because she said her attitude changed. I think it’s good when we force the ultra orthodox to feel a little discomfort. I think it was important that this message came from a member of the stake presidency and not some random speaker.
Thanks for sharing.

I think it is critical. If a member brought it up, many would think that it is a just a rouge member going off on a tangent and somewhat dismiss it. It reminds me of the survey that was done back a few years ago when OW was a bit more front and center. One question was asked “Do you support women being ordained in the church?” and a follow up of, “If the prophet came out with a revelation of ordaining women, would you support it?” The vast majority said NO to the first and the vast majority said YES. The church generally gets behind it’s leaders – similar to the MX missile issue in 1981 that as soon as the church said something on an issue – boom – the membership generally was right there in line.December 7, 2016 at 6:07 pm #316155Anonymous
GuestI love everything about this – and about DJ’s comment. *standing ovation*

GuestBeautiful story! Thanks so much for sharing, mom3! Love this quote from Uchtdorf, mentioned in the article:
Quote:“Because love is the great commandment, it ought to be at the center of all and everything we do in our own family…Love is the healing balm that repairs rifts in personal and family relationships. It is the bond that unites families … Love is the fire that warms our lives with unparalleled joy and divine hope. Love should be our walk and our talk.”
That is just what I needed today.
