I just listened to It’s time to reclaim and reinvent religion – Sharon Brous. Ted Talk link

I found it very interesting at about 6:40 with the following quote

    Quote:

My friend Melissa and I sat down and wrote an email and sent out to a few friends and colleagues and it said basically this, “Before you bail on religion, why don’t we come together this Friday night and see what we might make of our own Jewish inheritance?” We hoped maybe 20 people would show up. Turns out 135 people came. They were cynics, and seekers, atheist, and rabbi’s. Many people said that night it was the first time they had a meaningful religious experience in their entire lives.

Where my mind is at is really a crossroads of do I:

    (a) walk away as fast as I can without jeopardizing my marriage and just don’t look back – look for other good things.

    (b) stay involved as a nuanced Mormon trying to reclaim and improve the church within.

Sharon in this talk is making the point to do (b). I have a friend in the town where I live that is REALLY pushing hard on (b) and trying to do it through the church leaders. He is kind of asking me to assist him in this fight. I don’t have much faith that working through leaders will make much of a change. I think it is only going to come when enough people leave quick enough to make the issue undeniable.

I liked it alot. It is one of those talks you hear & need to listen to again.

    I like her point:

    Quote:

I need you and you need me.
