GuestIn another thread, I talk about me being upfront about my disbelief and you guys help me with that a lot. After a lot of considerations, I just put on my profile “Heterodox Mormon. Ask me if you want to know more!” So I went on date with lds girl who is from Brazil. So there was a culture and language barrier already. We talk a lot then she suddenly ask me what was a heterodox Mormon.
I open up that I didn’t believe the church was a simple as black and white and the literalism wasn’t true. I was SUPER nervous but she was very respectful and listen well. She asks a lot of questions but she slowly turns into sister mission mode just a tiny bit. She basically talk about how it’s ok that you don’t know everything, you just need a little faith. I just look it as opportunity tell her it’s more complicated than that. She did want to know specifically what I had problems with. I gave her very fast and simple answers and emphasize the important thing is to understand where I am at emotionally rather list all my disagreements with the church. She seems confused but she did say she has friends who are in similar situation.
After that, she said she wants to see me more specifically go to her first haunted house when Halloween comes around with her!
But the best part is when she said: “Can I give you something that is from my country?” I was confused but said sure. Then she gave me a kiss on the cheek! Ha ha.
I don’t have any expectations for this to go far. I’m just happy I have a new friend and I was able to have this experience.
So in summary, it was great practice and I thought I handle myself well. She was very respectful and was willing to take time to listen. She did dip into missionary mode but that’s ok.

GuestCongratulations… and you walked away with a kiss. I would call that a win! August 28, 2017 at 9:38 pm #318271Anonymous
GuestWell done! Haunted houses make fun dates. She sounded interested in you. I’m sure there are others out there like that also. Some may not understand or agree with your point of view…but also don’t put that on the highest priority of their list. It’s good to see that you can be you, and it go well.

GuestThat’s great! Hurray for lowered expectations for they are surely the pathway to success. August 29, 2017 at 2:26 am #318273Anonymous
GuestShe sounds charismatic with her offer to give you a gift from her country….and then a kiss. Am glad you have a friend and that she didn’t outright reject you. Seems like the word heterodox is making it into our STayLDS culture along with 1. Worshiping God according to the dictates of conscience.
2. Leadership roulette
3. Sheepese
etcetera.
