GuestAnd as many of us aren’t “pray-ers” please keep him in your thoughts. I’d like him to hang on a bit longer. It’s selfish. April 5, 2017 at 6:08 pm #319890Anonymous
GuestI’m conflicted. People don’t live forever. Monson will die some day. If Monson is suffering in any way I’d hope that he passes… and that’s not me wishing death on the man, that’s me wishing him the absolute best. He’s had a good life. He deserves rest.
I see that his wife died almost 4 years ago. That’s gotta be tough in and of itself.
I find it hard to pray for something specific like, pray that Monson makes a full recovery, or pray that Monson passes peacefully. So I’ll pray that whatever is in Monson’s best interest happens.

Thanks mom3. I will join you and pray also for him. I hope he does not have to suffer.Quote:“As we offer unto the Lord our family prayers and our personal prayers,” President Monson says, “let us do so with faith and trust in Him. Let us remember the injunction of Paul to the Hebrews: ‘For he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him’ (Hebrews 11:6). If any of us has been slow to hearken to the counsel to pray always, there is no finer hour to begin than now.”
I also pray his family is consoled during this time.

I like that thought, nibbler. Thanks.

GuestI agree that he deserves to go if it’s time to go. I have said in the past that he must be terribly lonely. His wife and all his dearest friends and their wives are over there. It is selfish of me to not want him to go to them.
Two years ago when he verbally stumbled during his talk I prayed then that he could go. He’d done so much and it was fine. In that time he has found a balance. Others have found their voices. Those voices worry me.
But I too wish that what is really best for him comes to fruition. He is someone I have liked for a long time. I don’t think church PR has served his mission of caring for others very well. That sorrows me. It was a very Christian and life sustaining message.
I will miss him.

This. I wanted to see more caring for the poor and needy. I remember how excited I was when he added it as another mission of the Church.
Since I was a child I’ve loved his stories of love and service. I admire him greatly, and want nothing but the best for him. If there’s a life after this one, he deserves to be there with his wonderful wife.

I was inactive when the “fourth mission of the church” was added. I fully support it. It amazes me whenever it’s brought up, sometimes by me and sometimes by others, how many people look at the person like they have two heads and/or say there only three missions. I (and others) do enlighten them, but it always seems like more than half the room has no clue.
I love President Monson’s message of love/charity/service and I truly hope he doesn’t suffer. Were he my grandfather I’d like him to go quickly, peacefully and comfortably. I only want him to linger for selfish reasons. I’m fine with a “thy will be done” approach in the matter and I suppose I could pray for that.

It’s my favorite mind blowing trick in church. It beats out polygamy. My Bishop is now so trigger happy about my response, he clarifies it before I do almost like it’s a game.
The toughest part is how cool it could have been for the church to make a huge effort to fulfill that mission. Think of the joy, the lives, the healing we could have done. And the stupid PR guys blew it.
He was no Gordon B. Hinckley who could sell ice to Eskimo’s and Iraqi’s. Thomas Monson deserved to have a full out PR campaign. Brochures, videos, firesides, year long conference talks. It breaks my heart for us and for him.

That’s funny, there a couple things like that in my own ward. One is the bishop thinks we should all dress up and come to church to watch priesthood session because it’s fellowshipping and it’s had such a long tradition in the church and he has such great memories of doing that with his sons. He knows full well I’m going to pop in with how much I enjoy sitting home in my jammies on the couch to watch (it’s late evening here on the east coast, it used to end at 10, now it’s 9:30). So he now always begins with something like “I know there are those among us who prefer to watch at home, but….” I still got him this time though because he threw in that we should come for the root beer floats our ward does beforehand. I announced I gave up ice cream for lent (which is not a lie). He’s not quite fast enough on his feet to have countered that I could come just for the root beer, but that’s OK.
Anyway, there are other examples of things people just don’t seem to know. Women’s session as first session of GC. Mormonandgay.lds.org. The gospel topics essays. These all happened under Pres. Monson’s leadership. Are they really following the prophet if they’re oblivious of them?

DJ you are right. Thanks for adding to the arsenal. It will keep my Bishop on his toes.
In seriousness it is a great question. We get so busy following the popular GA’s or our own agenda that we don’t slow down and put President Monson’s list first. Thanks for making the real picture bigger.

GuestI feel compassion for these people who are working themselves to the bone until they die in these life long positions. I hope he recovers and can enjoy life, or pass on, if that’s what he wants. There was an ex-Stake President who was very old in our Stake, and he was looking forward to dying because he thought he’d lived his life the best he could. So, I think that’s how the righteous face death if that’s a possibility… My thoughts are with him.

GuestHe is my favorite President from my lifetime. As I have said previously, I see him as a classic prophet – single-mindedly focused on one message he believes I should the most vital for his people. I absolutely love the fact that his message was love and service. I also pray for what is best for him – and, selfishly, for the Church.

Guest4 missions of the church?!? I still thought it was perfect the saints, proclaim the gospel, and redeem the dead. When did the 4th get added? (And how did I miss that?!?) -
