On Own Now PM’d a concern that GT is just advertising on our site. I believe we discussed this before, and I’ve been watching the posts to make sure there is genuine discussion there. I have no problem with the posts and like the content to generate discussion with those who like to delve into that area and talk about it responsibly.

GOT has presented two questions which are presumably answered on his site: whether Bishop Klingonsmith’s daughter was a survivor of the MMM and whether there was evidence of poisoning of Mormons by the victims.
Interestingly the same day a poster named “Rick B” who I assume is our GOT, posted essentially the same exact post with the same clickbait wheatandtares (
https://wheatandtares.org/2017/09/11/cs … mysteries/).To me, this is a misuse of StayLDS. He’s using this one-of-a-kind community trust here to advertise his own for-profit work.
MH…you can probably see this…anything you want to add?
My vote is to thank OON for the concern, but we are moderating and it seems within mission purposes and etiquette rules. I personally like the posts from GT.
What do others say? Any concerns?
I agree with you. I think these are framed as we requested. Also, while the site is monetized, you don’t HAVE TO subscribe to access the content. I say let them be. I agree with Heber and Hawk. This is similar to what was happening with Bill Reel back in the day.
However, Bill had a habit of starting the thread and then disappearing – seemingly indifferent to the discussion that ensued.
GT is participating in the discussion.
I do have mixed feelings on it, but agree that GT is staying within forum guidelines and unlike Bill Reel is not just posting a link and not being seen again, and I do appreciate that. I do think we need to be sure OON doesn’t feel like we’re dismissing his concern out of hand, though. In a general sense his concern is legit and I would share it if it wasn’t working the way it is. I have a great deal of respect for OON and he has been very helpful to me here.
I think we should thank OON for his insight. He may not be the only one. I am always leery of the free advertising issue. We are a unique spot on the bloggernacle. Lots of blogs exist, with comment threads, but we are different. FacesEast is gone, NOM is has become something different. I think it’s a fine line. Maybe we need to PM and ask him to present his posts here differently.
Just a thought. I’d like to keep both of them. OnOwnNow is a very necessary stage 5 type voice. I’d hate to lose him.
