This is significant, if only currently in its recognition of same-sex families as legitimate families on one’s family tree.

I think that great news! Unfortunately, one of the comments from the website said that recording same-sex marriages isn’t the same as condoning them. Well, I still think that great news!

I just saw this news, too, and I am elated. Yeah, acknowledging that they exist does not mean condoning them, but it’s still huge. It’s saying, “These are families!” It’s moving forward and that’s definitely better than the alternative.

In the long run, I don’t think it’s so much a matter of what the Church condones; God’s judgment isn’t contingent upon the Church’s approval, and my personal feelings are that He values these non-traditional families as long as they are loving and nurturing.

Having come from a family where there were lots of divorces, second marriages, and children from both (or more) marriages I have always found it difficult to enter information like that into Family Search. They don’t really make it easy. It is in fact easier to enter a child out of wedlock (like me) unless you’re also trying to put in a father’s info. I have five half siblings from four different fathers (five fathers total) so I know what I’m talking about. So while I see this as positive, I’m not optimistic it will be easy.

The double amazement to me is that the Deseret News published this diddy. That alone says something is on the move. Sometimes it is so hard to be ahead of the pack. Ah.

It’s like Kremlinology. Seeing the changes in the line-up atop Lenin’s tomb on Mayday… and trying to work out who’s next in line to succeed Brezhnev/Andropov etc…

Or in this case reading Pravda and trying to work out the changes in the party line. In this case, what the attitude to gay marriage is.
