GuestIt was announced today that: Women with dependent children can serve as temple workers, as well as men in some callings who were excluded previously. (This is a fairly big change. I have wanted to see this one for a long time.)
Veil worker callings are being elimanted. All will be ordinance workers now, with veil assignments possible for specific workers. (This is a technicality.)
Cell phones and electronic devices will be allowed in the temple office. (This one is minor, but it will be interesting to see what other changes happen due to technological advances.)

I did that years ago. Accidentally of course.

GuestI guess I never thought about the cell phone thing. I suppose that would be an easy way to record the sacred rites. I think I have probably brought mine to the locker room. 😳 I agree about women with children and men with callings being a good change. I recall a few years back a member from one of our branches who was called as counselor to the BP had to give up his beloved temple calling. He was very upset, actually. Given that he’s retired with no children at home and lives only about 45 minutes from the temple (and continues to go at least weekly anyway) I can understand why a blanket policy such at that doesn’t really fit everybody.
I’m not sure our temple had veil workers. I think all the people working at the time just come to do it.
More baby steps – I’m good with it.

GuestFunny side note. My father-in-law ( a 90 year old man) carried his flip phone with him all the time. For good reason. One day my husband rang him, just to check in. Dad didn’t answer it the first time. My husband called again. Again no answer. We are starting to panic. Husband tried once more. Dad answers and whispers. “Stop I am in a session.”
We were so relieved to hear his voice. Then we laughed so hard imagining the interruption.

GuestWe talked about these changes in stake council because we can talk about changes like these (and not those real changes that make a difference). Our SP said part of the reason for the changes was that there are not enough temple workers, and he then listed several needs along with the time commitments for our temple. He also said people can now take their cell phones to the desk where submitted names are printed, but otherwise it was as before and they should be turned off and placed in your locker (phew, that’s what I did anyway except I don’t think it was off, but probably silenced). -
