Anyone else getting a weird vibe from REBEL2? Seems a bit puppy-ish and enthusiastic like he’s discovered penicillin or something and now he’s here to teach everyone else how to do what he did. Plus, his spelling is just awful. Am I the only one?

No, I even asked my husband who is a former NOM-er and disconnected (though not resigned) member, and he was skeptical, too. The time line, the family facts, and other things make it hard to believe he had full blown, life altering crisis. A disappointment and shock, yes? But a full crisis and quick turn around after resigning. Sounds more like a lapsed Catholic. And the spelling – nightmarish.

Count me in as Doubting Thomasina on him.

Some of the misspellings are letters next to each other on the keyboard, but it is rough.

I have no way of knowing, people can come out of these things all sorts of ways. That said:

I don’t typically hear that sort of thing from someone post faith crisis. The Jesus is there for us, sure. The ever present adversary that’s out to get us, not so much.

I get a subtle vibe of clinical mental health issues, but I am immersed in that right now and might be reading between the lines too much.

Let’s keep an eye on his posts and comments – and perhaps have someone who can talk with him privately if it gets over the line at any point.

Yes, I do get strange vibes from him. I don’t think he’s insincere, but I also don’t think he really knows what he believes. “tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming” actually came to mind. Next month maybe he’ll read another anti book and think to himself “Yeah, there’s no way [fill in the blank]…” and be gone again. I have wondered about his mental health/stability as well, and yes, as an educator his spelling bugs me (some could be typos, others are clearly misspellings or the wrong word). I don’t know anyone who has resigned from the church and come back, but I do know post FC people and none of the ones I know spout testimony that way.

On the other hand, nothing he has said so far seems to be harmful or opposed to our mission. As long as he stays in his lane I think we just keep an eye on him.

I know someone from my previous ward that resigned and later came back. They resigned immediately after the policy of exclusion came out. They were also in a position where they were receiving financial assistance from the church at the time.

Kudos to the local leaders, they continued to provide assistance to them even after they resigned. It eventually reached a point where the BP said that it would be easier to continue assistance if they were a member of the church. So that’s what happened.

I have an Uncle who either resigned or was removed, back in the 1970’s. Probably an early Sunstone follower. He did come back. It took years. The other few stories I have read or heard about, also took years. You get torched during the process, just like a forest that re-growth is a bit undertaking. This just seems a little fast to me.

I agree. there are some inconsistencies but as long as he stays true to the mission of StayLDS I am willing to validate his journey (which is what I believe most people come here looking for).
