GuestI’ve seen this discussion come up recently and I wanted to throw mine out there. My wife and I have been starting to get back into physically going to church for about the past month. Before that we had just done home church with our ward streaming on Facebook, though our ward has been back to “normal” for several months now. Honestly, we don’t really like our ward. There are one or two good people who we don’t mind seeing, but aside from that most of the people there make church hard to enjoy. Our first Sunday back was welcomed with comments of how long it had been since anyone had seen us. I may not be the most involved member, but I don’t enjoy my lack of activity being noticed (not that anyone does). Fortunately, we have another option. Some family of ours are going to a married student ward somewhat nearby and since I’m technically a student, we’re eligible to attend that ward. The only downsides to that ward, is it is a 30 minute drive for us, when our usual ward is less than 5 minutes. Also from the times that we’ve been to that ward, I haven’t been overly impressed with the congregation or the environment. Think singles ward with crying babies. Not a huge improvement. So the only reason we’d be going is to go to church with family (though they’ll have to leave the ward themselves before too long) and also to get away from our current ward.
So what is everyone’s thoughts? Is it worth pulling the trigger to get a fresh start in a new (though mediocre and farther away) ward?

GuestOn your own terms. All else flows from that.

GuestI was once in a situation where I could easily change wards and it worked out great for me. I still live in the ward I moved to decades later. The ward I moved from was the Hades First Ward, so there’s that. Paraphrasing Forrest Gump, wards are like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re gonna get. Old-Timer wrote:

I think what OT said is it in a nutshell.
I attended church for the first time in a few months today (since the change in mask policy in our ward). I arrived during opening song, sat in the foyer, and left during the closing song. My terms.
