    According to LDS Daily,

“Of the 65 temples currently under construction that have exterior renderings released to the public, 12 have Moroni Statutes as part of the design.” and

“There has not been a [Temple] rendering released since 2020 that had Moroni in it.”

In other words, less than 20% of temples currently being built have the angel and ALL of those 20% had their renderings publicly revealed prior to 2020.

This seems to be a side affect to the emphasizing the proper name of the church and de-emphasizing or even removing altogether the word Mormon or the acronym LDS. However this seems to be much milder in scope. There are no temples that are having the Moroni removed at present and even the temples currently planned with Moroni seem to be moving forward as designed. However, it would seem that from this point forward new temples will not have the iconic angel.

There was a time in the Hinckley era where all the temples that didn’t have Moroni got one. Interesting how things shift.

I get the symbolism of Moroni and the restoration, but honestly I’ve never liked it. I agree the the shift away from Moroni as a symbol is likely part of the emphasis on the name of the church, but also more of an emphasis on the Savior Himself in talks and lesson materials. I can’t say from my own point of view that it’s a bad thing.

I found the Moroni image on the original Nauvoo temple interesting.

I’m not sure if it was a statue or a weathervane.

(I don’t know how to attach it. Sorry)

Yes, I agree that it has been a pretty strange exception to the no graven images rule.

As an aside, We recently visited Salem Oregon. In our hotel room was a picture of the Oregon state capitol building. DW asked me if it was a Mormon temple.
