GuestOld Timer, I was logging into the administrative side of the site to delete the latest join request from a spammer and noticed that Minyan Man was also in the inactive users bucket.
According to the logs, it looks like you deactivated the account. I’m assuming this was something they asked you to do but I wanted to make sure this was intentional.

GuestYes. He requested it. Thanks for asking. Seriously.

GuestIs this related to something I did? I do perceive he was offended by our interaction regarding Watcher, but I really did not mean to offend. I have a great deal of respect of Minyan Man and his often very wise perspective. August 23, 2022 at 5:09 pm #342923Anonymous

I have to imagine that if MM left because of some conflict with others on the site that we would have a discussion about it here. I assume that he was just ready to move on in his journey.August 23, 2022 at 9:16 pm #342924Anonymous
GuestI agree he likely would have brought up to someone if he had been offended or bothered. But maybe not, he might have been afraid to for whatever reason. He did respond to my PM regarding Watcher but there really was not an indication he was upset. His response was short and basically said he was just asking a question and he likes to ask questions and didn’t mean to get anybody in trouble. I know it’s just my own feelings, and I admittedly have a fairly low EQ. So sensing feelings whether I’m confusing my own feelings with those of others or not is not something that doesn’t easily or regularly happen with me. I’m not sure he saw Watcher in the same light I do, and it appears they might be of similar age and he may have related more to Watcher than I do.
But you may be right, I may be crazy. And he may just be moving on. I will miss him.

GuestNo. He said he is at peace and simply is ready to leave. He stated deep appreciation for everyone here. August 24, 2022 at 9:54 pm #342926Anonymous

I have noticed that sometimes people reach a place where they are ready to not give Mormonism space in their head anymore and even participating at StayLDS seems to maintain that internal mental space.
The child-abuse case out of Arizona is an example. For those that might feel silenced or unheard by the church then the discussion can be a needed outlet. For people that are ready to not think about the church as much anymore, reading about the case and feeling the resultant frustration/anger might be more than they are wanting.
I feel that I am more informed about institutional church current events than many of the people that come to church every week – but that takes time and it takes effort and it takes mental space in my head.

GuestThat’s too bad. He contributed in more ways than perhaps he knows. It still feels strange to have the account deactivated. I suppose if it wasn’t deactivated there may be temptation to log back in.
The only reason I mention it is because it shows up in the same list as people trying to register and now we’ll have to be extra careful not to accidentally delete the account when we go in to delete a spammer that’s trying to join.

GuestI agree that it feels strange to me as well. I liken it more to people who leave the church. Most people who leave just stop coming, perhaps request no contact if people are bugging them, and sometimes just don’t identify as members. However there are some who are more adamant about not being associated with the church. They ask to have their names removed. Likewise, lots of people here just stop coming around, a few sort of give a good bye message but don’t ask to be deactivated. But to each his own. I’m sure he has his reasons and its really none of our business. But as Nibbler said, I think he contributed in more ways than he knows, sometimes being the little life the forum had.

GuestHe said he has come to an acceptance of full membership. attendance, activity, etc. and just felt the need to walk away from here. It was a very respectful, thankful request – which is exactly what I would have expected from him.

I hope that we were there for him during a dark time and that when we were no longer helping that he just knew that he was ready and had the self-awareness and courage to step away.September 2, 2022 at 12:24 am #342931Anonymous
