GuestArticle from “The Guardian” makes the case that Mormon history and theology are at the heart of Utah’s reluctance to curb water usage as other western states have been doing.
Article from Dereret News that makes the case that perhaps “The Guardian” article was (and religion reporters generally may tend to be) unfair to Mormons and overly simplistic. I tend to agree with the simplification angle but I personally blame that on the format. It is an article trying to explain complex issues like westward expansion, religious doctrine, and water management. If you wrote a book on the subject you might have an easier time of avoiding simplification.

GuestQuote from an entirely different article I was reading about Journalism and its struggle for neutrality. Quote:“The point is that the power of journalism comes from the primacy of reporting — from telling their audiences things that people in power would prefer they not know.”
This would seem to indicate that journalists are not doing their job properly if they are not questioning the PR. Journalists cannot simply tell the story that church leadership would want to be told. Still, there can be a fine line between questioning church leadership decisions and mocking the faithful.
My own opinion is that The Guardian article strikes a fair balance in this regard in attempting to explore the history of Utah, its dominant faith, and it relationship to water.
