I think BYU-I tries to pride itself with being more strict than Provo. Some their dress standards and some devotionals suggest that, from what my daughter tells me. It can help develop a source of school pride. And there are side effects.

As I said, my daughter thrives there.

I would be fine if my son wanted to attend BYU – I’d also be fine if he didn’t. Personally, I would rather he did attend BYU, since it’ll likely save me a lot of $$ if he does. East coast universities are running $20k and up per year for undergrads. BYU’s ~$5k is extremely affordable in comparison.

I attended Ricks College, the DW is a BYU alumna. I was taught evolution in biology class, a non-creationist view of the universe in physics while also attending religion classes. The “Churchiness” is laid on pretty thick, but it is a Church school, after all.

In short, BYU isn’t for everyone. For some kids, it’s heaven. Others really struggle there – just like anywhere else, I reckon.

My gay daughter wad completely suicidal at BYU provo. BYU -I is worse.

If you are nor into Molly-mo, Peter-p conformity, BYU is a pretty hostile place.
