GuestHmmm. Kind of would have liked to have heard it. A-googling we will go, I guess. Ah, never mind. That wasn’t so hard. I missed the link in one of Bridget’s posts. Not sure what the rest of you guys are talking about.
Okay, I hate to be the one to point this out, since I liked the talk, but a bishop … with facial hair? What kind of church are they running up there in SLC?

The Bishop’s speech was excellent – but I’m not going to permit a link to such a terrible distortion of it.
Thank you Ray, I agree. I guess (Person X) posted it again. This is not a truth at all but uglyness and hate.

GuestI know most of you know this, but just for the record: When an admin deletes something and you disagree with the action, send the person who deleted it a Private message explaining why you think it was an incorrect decision. We can talk about it privately, and, if you can convince the admin it actually was a bad decision, he or she will allow it.
Don’t just re-post something that an admin has deleted. It will get deleted again without hestitation.
So, if someone wants the link re-posted here, send me a PM and explain why. I’ve changed my mind in the past on lots of things, so make your case privately to me.

GuestSaw this on a friends blog today who said I could share it. It was a good article on what the church could do immeadiately to help lgbt Mormons. http://invictuspilgrim.blogspot.com/2011/11/stopping-spiritual-bullying-what-church.html November 11, 2011 at 9:07 pm #246248Anonymous

Thanks again Bridget. The link in part talked about how many families with gay children feel like they need to choose between the Church and the child.
I believe that part of this is that the existence of gay people mess with our assumptions. Meaning that we believe strongly in free agency, and that God will give no commandment to his children lest he provide a way for it to be accomplished – But what should a gay person do when faced with the commandment to be fruitful and multiply the earth or the modern interpretation of producing offspring within “the covenant”. (I believe the current [perhaps unofficial] church advice for gay persons that do not feel any attraction toward members of the opposite gender is to remain single and celibate for life!)
It is fairly easy to dismiss whole swaths of people that one does not individually know as wicked, but for those that do come to know and love someone that they later find out is gay you are presented with a choice:
Either your loved one is wicked (or is drawn to wicked behavior through a process we do not understand) or things suddenly become not as simple, clear, and black/white as they were before.
I believe President Packer’s question, “Why would our Heavenly Father do that to anyone?” (When asked sincerely) embodies this fork in the road conundrum.

GuestThe Mormon Stories broadcast that had Bishop Kevin Kloosterman speak was very emotional. I know the man personally. He isn’t my bishop, but he was a counselor of mine from the young adult singles branch that I used to be a part of. Wonderful man. I’m grateful from a Heavenly Father that he was able to speak about this issue. I do have gay friend who was excommunicated from the church years ago. I do pray this won’t cause him to lose his position as bishop, but then maybe it won’t. -
