GuestI thought about posting this in the “Good things that happen” thread but decided I wanted to make a new post about it, instead. I want to keep the following quotes separate, since I think they are incredibly profound. Today, my daughter reported on her mission in Sacrament Meeting. The other speakers were my oldest son and my mother-in-law, and all of them spoke about what they had learned from their missions. It was a wonderful meeting, and I don’t say that just because of my relationship to the speakers.
My son spoke about learning to accept and love everyone for the flawed people we all are, and he started and ended with the following quotes from The Breakfast Club:
Quote:You see us as you want to see us – in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain…and an athlete…and a basket case…a princess…and a criminal…
and
Quote:We’re all pretty bizarre. Some of us are just better at hiding it, that’s all.
My mother-in-law talked about things she learned from her four senior couple missions, and she included some really profound concepts that were powerful. The one that stands out to me, especially for everyone here was:
Quote:Sometimes, we get so wrapped up in the difficulties of our lives that we forget to open our spiritual curtains, let the sunshine into our room and enjoy the beauty all around us.
My daughter spoke about learning to rely on the Lord, and she shared one experience about prayer that really touched her and changed how she views prayer. She said they were teaching a young man who wanted to believe in God but just was agnostic (my word for brevity, not hers). She said he prayed in one of the discussions and said, essentially:
Quote:God, if you are there, I don’t know if you have days and nights, but, if you do, I hope you had a good day.
She said she learned that we make life too complicated and that joy comes in learning to let it be as simple as it can be.

GuestThose are beautiful. I think we need more Ray family talks. I really like them. August 11, 2014 at 2:11 am #288873Anonymous
GuestThis is great! We had a great sacrament meeting as well with talks that spoke of unconditional love and being Christ like.
Ray, I’m glad you were able to be there and to have that experience. Thank you for sharing!

GuestThese are great, ray. We had a good SM today, too. I’m going to post about it on the good things thread but I have been short on time today. August 11, 2014 at 11:25 am #288875Anonymous
GuestVery nice quotes, Ray – thanks. There really are no substitutes for experiences that teach us to understand and love others as well as to be grateful for our experience here on earth and to notice the beauty.

GuestThanks Ray, we had a speaker that said everything comes out of love, and when we make a decision it should be based in love. I enjoy hearing about others thoughts or questions, the prayer wishing God a good day made me smile. I don’t think it would ever occur to me to wish God a good day, to me He IS the good day (makes the day/life good or however you want to word it).
