I was about to doze off in Sunday School today, and I thought I heard the following statement. I’m sure I mixed up some of the words that were actually said, but what I heard gave me a moment of contemplation. I’m interested in hearing what comes to your mind from the statement: The truthfulness of the gospel is a personal gift to each one of us.Hmm. I’m coming up blank on that. Tom Haws wrote:Hmm. It really made me think, “I don’t know what that means.”
Sorry guys, I guess I’ve been on a singular wavelength. It kind of hit me in the light of “our understanding” of the truthfulness (or degree of) can be precious to us. “Truthfulness” can mean different things to different people, so however we personally take it – that is our “gift.” I don’t know, I guess it’s one of those things where you had to be there (in my mind at the time).

Ah, see, you were being taught by the spirit! That, my friend, is what it is all about.
I can agree that my new understanding of what “truth” means or is or isn’t has been a gift.
Different people learn best in different ways. In education that means ” individual modality. We often read or listen from the context of our need Taught by the spirit is the most accurate way to learn. Now if we could use that in our schools. Education would so much more affective. Thanks from that Gem of knowledge. I will treasure it in my heart.

Orson, that is what hit me also when I read your first post…truthfulness is given to us based on our personal needs because it is the process of improving each of us individually that God is interested in, not revealing what is correct or right and trying to convince us all of the one right path.I wish there was more acceptance of that doctrine, and less of the “If..then..” mentality in the church, meaning, “if you pay your tithing, then you will never be poor” or “if you date non-mormons then you won’t get married in the temple” or “if you live the word of wisdom then you will be healthy”. Yesterday our bishop taught that if the youth lived FSOY standards with exactness, they would not fall into sin. I don’t believe that is true for me or my family. They will avoid sin if they learn to love God, regardless of some of those standards that the church put forth as good suggestions. What is true to our bishop is not true to me, and what I share here on this forum is probably not true for all of you.

What one person finds out to be truth for them, doesn’t mean it translates universally to others, all one can do is share what they believe and let it inspire others or not. I have found value in finding the personal Gospel according to Heber…and finally getting to where I can let go of what it means to others. It is my personal gospel and my personal relationship with God. If others disagree, that is about them, not about me and my gospel.Thanks for your thoughts.
