TL;DR – Crucial Coversations by Kerry Patterson, I Thought It Was Just Me by Brene Brown, and Carol Lynn Pearson’s Why I Stay.

That others who struggle with their testimonies might find such companions amongst our fellow sojourners in this “veil of tears” is my wish. I wish that all who struggle or doubt might know that there are people willing and able to be there for them and truly mourn with them as they mourn. Maybe you need to do some reaching out during your times of spiritual plenty so that when your cruse of oil has run dry, others may supply the strength you need. That is the covenant I made, unknowingly and happily, when I was eight years old. Today I took the bread and water for the millionth time and reaffirmed that commitment, much more knowingly and not less happily.

I share this because I hope those who feel they cannot make it to “one more f-ing sacrament meeting” do not give up.

Yes, loneliness, or at least a feeling of having no one to talk to or confide in, is a common theme here. I was quite lonely for many years – lost, hungry and helpless. This place may fill that void for some (it works for me) but others need more of a face-to-face experience. That all may find what they need is also my wish. I’m glad you have found what is working for you.

Thank you for this post, science_saint. I needed this today. Yesterday, I was at the point you described in the last line of the post. Thank you for helping me get to a better, more hopeful place.

I want to bring this topic up again.

My HT came by today & told be about the following video on youtube by Dr. Brene Brown.

It demonstrates the difference between Sympathy & Empathy. It is only about 3 minutes long.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Evwgu369Jw&list=PLmHmICyEzbjZELowSuV5_mM6Xv1kJ_wDc

A number of times in church & other situations in life, we mix the (2) words up.

As you will see, empathy takes real effort.

A lot of what we post on this site, I believe, deals with the response we get from others in Church, Family or others.

Thanks science_saint, I agree, people need a reason to stay. I try to find my reason to stay while hoping I can give others a reason. It’s tough when you’re as mousy as me IRL. ;)

    I enjoyed the video Mike.

I agree it is tough to establish a network of friends with your ward family. It is worth the effort.

Since becoming active again, I’ve found a small group that I can rely on. We can share thoughts & ideas without being judged.

And I know that our conversation is confidential. Not that we have anything that would be anyone’s concern.

One member is my HT. Who we have known for many years. Also, we do live in a larger city & you can easy identify member who have a liberal or conservative view points.

If nothing else, you discovered who isn’t your friend.

[Admin Note]: “Sue” has been banned for being the same person who posted a while ago under a different name, telling a radically different story now than previously. There were elements of the original story that were extremely difficult to believe, and the new one was toned down, with different hot points. The Admins were suspicious of some of the details of her new story and discovered the multiple identities today. Trolling or using sock puppets (multiple identities) is not allowed here, so she was banned.

Ray (and other admins) – Thanks for your time and effort to keep this sight balanced for the group that it is. I know that isn’t easy to do and you walk a fine line between letting too much go and offending folks. But I do very much like this site that helps me work out my issues. There are other sites if people just want to go vent about the church. I wish them well and I hope they get to a place where they are more at peace.
