The Mormon Women Project just published an interview with Sister Cathy Stokes, a black woman who joined the Church in 1979. Her interview is inspiring and thought-provoking, so I am providing the link here:

    “Cherish One Another” (http://www.mormonwomen.com/2013/07/31/cherish-one-another/)

    My favorite lines, among many:

    Quote:

I have known tenderness and I have known its opposite, and I know that tenderness is better.

    Quote:

I was impressed with the missionaries. They were weird little white boys.

    Fantastic!!

My favorite quotes from the article:

    Quote:

I had questions then and I have questions now, but the things I do understand bring such peace and enlightenment.

    Quote:

I think a lot of people have questions but they don’t ask them. If we don’t ask the questions, we can’t have the conversation, and it’s the dialogue that enlarges us all, that enables us to get understanding. We’re told in Proverbs [4:7], “Above all, get understanding,” but sometimes we just swallow stuff.

    but the best:

    Quote:

Know who you are. Know what power lies within you. Get on a first-name basis with your Father in Heaven. Pour out your heart to Him. You got to get personal with Him. Know what He wants you to know and do what he wants you to do. And always be a proud woman of faith, never apologetic of who you are and what you believe. Never ashamed.

Thanks for sharing this! Very inspiring.
