Additional translation of Bible

There was another thread “the book of mammon” that started talking about different translations of the bible http://www.staylds.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1962&p=23075” class=”bbcode_url”>http://www.staylds.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1962&p=23075, but it seemed like it was odd for me to continue on that thread.

I remember on some podcast I listened to a believing LDS individual that had studied the bible as a profession actually mentioned that the church was correct to pick the KJV of the bible at the time as it was the best version around, but this individual thought that another version was very good and thought it should be allowed more to be studied by LDS members. Does anybody have much experience in this area? I think it might have been the NRSV version.

I would like to read both the KJV and another version. The other thread mentioned an online one that showed versions right next to each other, but I spend too much time looking at a computer screen during the day. I want a book to look at.

I do read different versions. I use this site:

You can look up any verse and read it from 20 different translations. It’s very interesting.

I have also done the biblehub thing. I do like the KJV, probably mostly because it’s what I am used to. However, having other versions to compare to does sometimes clarify things.

I have expressed my preference for KJV elsewhere. I DO read other translations, but the truth is that the KJV is THE standard English Bible we always go back to, and none of the hundreds (yes hundreds) of newer translations are anywhere near that central position in English language literature and culture. People use phrases from the KJV – and Shakespeare – all the time without knowing it.

Stylistically, I like it too, despite some archaisms.
