“alatterdayblogger” is Michael Crook. I checked his email address from when he registered; it is crystal clear. Under the blogging name, he posted the link to the scathing, condemnatory post about the Bishop who spoke at the LGBT convention – the link I deleted because it was bile. He then reposted it, saying he knew the person who wrote it and that there was no bile in the post. I deleted it again and added my note to everyone. Not once did he tell everyone he actually was the person who wrote the post.
Roy sent me the following PM today about Michael Crook, which is along the lines of what I already knew about him and why I deleted the link without hesitation. I thought everyone should see Roy’s message – and talk about whether or not we ban “alatterdayblogger” from this site. I vote to do so.

He also appears to have been behind his own personal web sting operation (a la dateline’s “to catch a predator”) and then publishing their personal info on the web. Major difference was that the individuals he was exposing thought they were talking to an 18 yr old girl so they didn’t actually break the law.
He then made waves for sending a bunch of legal notices to other blogs etc. that used his picture (as shown on Fox News). Only to find out later that he did not own the copyright (Fox news did).
He is reportedly a holocaust denier.
From what I can tell he now devotes a fair portion of his time stirring up trouble within the LDS blogosphere.
He doesn’t believe rape exists (Unless the woman dies defending her virtue he seems to believe she was asking for it to some degree [based on a twisting of a statement of SWK’s]
He believes inter-racial marriage should be outlawed.
He believes anyone who in any way supports the homosexual cause should be excommunicated.
He believes that it is right and proper to harass Gay persons because if we make life difficult for them they might change their evil ways and if they commit suicide as a result of our harassment that is their choice.
I posted a comment on his blog about how he can be so angry at Bishop Kloosterman for not “supporting the brethren” and Michael himself then publicly deriding the brethren (and Elder Bednar specifically) for not taking as hard of a stance as he would like against homosexuality. I also asked him how he would react if a revelation was received allowing active participation for gay married couples. He decided to not publish my comment.
I’m not sure if he just loves the notoriety or is trying to make a living off of it or both.
I understand that sometimes the Church employs excommunication to distance itself from certain individuals. I could see how the Church might consider doing so in Michael’s case. I would hate to think of anyone getting impressions of Mormonism based upon this guy.
I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in the beginning – but now I do not believe he is capable of the kind of discussion we cultivate here at StayLDS.
BAN! Even ignoring all his writing outside our site, he has been nothing but trouble. None of his posts have met our standards or fit into our mission. We’ve tried coaching him. His only participation here has been to promote his off-site work. I don’t believe he is here in our community to participate in our purpose. We’re just an advertising platform to be used.
I’ve skimmed his blog briefly and a few links based on Googling his name. I am not comfortable with him on any level. He comes across as a spiritually and emotionally handicapped individual. He is consumed by anger and feels like someone with deep, frightening injuries.
Just read the thread where he caused the problem again. I banned him as a safety precaution while we discuss the situation. We can un-ban him later if that is the group consensus. Frankly, I would have banned him immediately, but I wanted to ask about it first. I have no qualms at all about making the ban permanent, without any notification to him. Given how his posts have been treated, if he is surprised about being banned, he’s either stupid or deep in denial.
Its hard for me to say. I only see 2 posts from alatterdayblogger if I search for his user name. I assume “Mike from Milton” is the other user name he uses? Not knowing anything outside of this forum on him, I’m struggling to see where the major problems are with his posts.
I’ll defer to you both, Brian and Ray, but so far I’ve seen his posts that are quirky, but I’m glad to see the others on the forum know how to respond to him.
Perhaps I’d have a stronger opinion if I saw large volumes of posts from him, or his posts clearly violating our ground rules on etiquette, and his unwillingness to change his tone so he doesn’t disrupt the conversations.
In short, what are your greatest fears of letting him post on this site? What examples are there to look at?
Will ignoring him eventually lead to him going away? Will banning him fuel his determination to get on with different usernames and cause us more grief (some personalities are like that…if you ban him…will it give him a fight he seeks for?)
“Mike from Milton” is a different person. I moved Crook’s first post to this forum immediately after he posted it, due to the content of the links. It’s still viewable if you want to look.
My main reason is that his entire view is restrictive – and he is vehemently condemning of anyone who doesn’t toe the extreme right line (including apostles). He hasn’t posted a single comment that hasn’t been attacking in nature.
I only see 2 posts from alatterdayblogger, and yes, those 2 were attacking of the church and others … very close-minded. Is that all he’s posted, 2 posts?
OK, I just read through BN’s thread…so clearly, I missed that bile post. :thumbdown: Ban him if you want, I have no objections.
