GuestA member in a previous ward recently posted a link to the bycommonconsent blog on 10 reasons why women should pray in conference. It got a couple of ‘likes.’ I messages him and we’ve exchanged a couple of messages about the frustrating difference between Christ’s gospel and Wasatch culture (if that’s the right word). The same person shared a few blog post from Mormonbutmoderate during the election.
My family on the other hand, who found a little about my concerns over Christmas, just keep sharing FARMS evidence with me.
Is sharing anything ever appropriate on FB?
BCC is a little borderline (but quite ‘borderlands’) as there is a fair amount of ‘real’ history and some dissent. These days it seems a little tame (having spent too much time on NOM/exmo boards) but I’m aware some would consider it heretical.
My other advantage is I’m in a fairly new unit and still have no FB friends from there, so I’m aware the only Mormons who’d see one of my shares is famy and old friends. Hmm…
Talk me out of it? Shouldn’t we help people learn the real history but in a safer place than an anti-site?

GuestI posted a link to the “Let Women Pray” site on FB. I got a lot of angry, ignorant tirades from a few people. But then most people on FB that I see in real life didn’t comment about it at all, but talked to me later and were commented that I have some really “interesting” FB friends. Yeah, but even a fairly benign site like BCC will not be well received by mainstream members. It is hard, but in general I try to refrain from teaching the general public about the history. They are happy in their faith as it stands, let them remain so. With my children, who I have an obligation to teach, I portion out the history a little at a time as appropriate. Getting it all in one lump sum is overwhelming for most people, and usually they either just reject it all, or it causes a genuine faith crisis. A faith crisis is so difficult and painful, i would never want to be responsible for causing it in someone else.January 25, 2013 at 11:05 pm #263995Anonymous

I certainly don’t want to inflict the 2-3 months of turmoil when it all came crashing down.
