I wish our wards were more like Catholic parishes, where you went where you felt the most welcome, at home, etc. That way, there could be a more “Conservative” (ie TBM) ward, a more “Reform” (ie heterodox) ward, etc. That way the TBMs could all go to church together and stoke each other’s righteous indignation, and the more non-traditional could go to church together and feel fellowship together, too. Geography seems like a dumb way to assign ward “membership.”
That would be great but the non TBM ward wouldn’t have anyone to do the hard work.
So I a occasional beer drinker come to you for a TR and admitted his drinking but he felt right with God about it, would you give him a TR?

GuestMy BP didn’t have a problem with it…wants me to have one just so I could accept certain callings. The SP, hmmmm, no such luck. Not happening.

GuestIf you pay tithing on the gross amount you won’t have anything to pay tithing on when you retire. October 6, 2013 at 5:50 am #272600Anonymous

We’re set up so differently. With rotating lay leadership the conservative-“ness” of any ward/stake depends quite a bit on who happens to be bishop/stake president at the moment. I kind of like the geographical boundaries because, at least in the places I’ve lived, it’s made the wards as sociologically and economically diverse as they have potential to be. I think there’s a certain “something” that LDS wards can have when we just accept that, Okay, these are my people. Let’s get along.
I wish we didn’t have such a two-tiered system – TR holders and non-TR holders. So much hinges on it. Sometimes I feel that I’d just like the whole recommend process to go away, but I don’t presume to know what is best for us as a group.
Good luck!

Well, except interest. Which is actually all that should be titled in the first place.
