Not as encouraging for me as the multiple First Vision discussion and Disavowment of Priesthood Ban news releases last week. The good? Addressing post manifesto polygamy more clearly. Good stuff. The disheartening? No use of very direct and clear language about the Prophet JS engaging in polygamy with many wives.

It’s interesting how they still cannot say the words: (something to the effect of) “Joseph Smith instituted plural marriage and had many wives, although fear of law and unprepared membership kept this commandment for the Restoration

    Prophet largely hidden and secret”.

Instead (news release quote) “In accordance with a revelation to Joseph Smith, the practice of plural marriage—the marriage of one man to two or more women—was instituted among members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the early 1840s.”

I use the analogy of the sex talk for children. Until you come right out and tell your 9 year old about the exact mechanics of sex. No amount of dancing around with parsing words like “we give each other a special hug” . You still have not had the sex talk. It will continue to go right over membership heads. A moderate disappointment for me because I fear this is all we are going to get for sometime. These words have have been thought about carefully and been selected to be in this series of releases. IMHO this news release compromise does not help bring dialogue to the #1 piece of information that starts a faith crisis. Any additional thoughts?

I need help seeing this one positively.

My apologies, I did not see JohnLocke already has opened up this subject line yesterday :shifty:. The responses and clarification there are very good. Administration can merge these as they see fit.

I will delete this one, SofG, and ask that you simply add any comment you want to that thread. That’s the easiest way to do it.
