Hola everybody, I haven’t posted on this site since last January. I just wanted to update those wondering what life is like on the outside. I resigned from the church last November. I had some bad feelings about the church for a long time, since I was about 16 (I’m 29 now), so I took a step back for a number of years, then got back into researching history and the deeper theology of Mormon doctrine, and decided my views didn’t parallel the church’s view.

Since then, I must say I’ve never been so optimistic about life. I’ve buried my head into all types of religious teachings, science (mostly cosmology) and philosophy. I didn’t quite know where I would head, but I must say I’ve fallen into a road that is much more accepting and understanding of cultures and beliefs, and all of their similarities. I just wanted to say to those that fear the ramifications of leaving the church- there is a great place outside of it. Every creature on this planet wants to know their purpose, their reason for being here. Are there answers from scriptures, from ancient texts, from the words or studies of man? I say inspiration is inspiration. Who truly know the origin of these thoughts?

There is a wonderful joy in the history of mankind’s ponderings. I can say now that I keep Christ and the Buddha (both enlightened beings) in mind when I make daily decisions, when I strive to choose the right. I do not know where the future will take me, but I feel very fortunate to have grown up in the Mormon Church, and I feel I have moved beyond it. I hope that doesn’t offend people on this sight too much, but it is true. There is great beauty out there. Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the updated Spacious Maze. It is really more important to find that peace, love, connection to life and growth, than it is to hold a particular club card in your pocket. I am really happy to hear you are doing so well.

I always feel a bit sad when people resign (people wrote resignation letters when I was a priesthood leader, and that was my prevailing emotion at the time), but I’m always pleased to hear people comment on how they have found peace in any context. I’m happy for you in that respect. And I believe you can still grow, progress and pursue spirituality in your new circumstances.

Honestly, I would rather people find peace and joy inside the Church than leave it (as all of you know), but when it comes down to the most fundamental levels, I also believe “men are that they might have joy”. I’m happy you have found joy, first and foremost.
