GuestLove the celestial language line. And his LDS explanation of how it applies to us. April 3, 2016 at 5:43 pm #310419Anonymous
GuestObedience isn’t the point, it’s a means to an end. April 3, 2016 at 5:45 pm #310420Anonymous
GuestDFU – Amen. My personal favorite talk of the past few conferences. Crying too hard to write more. Composed now.
Obedience not a means to an end.
Not a tool to beat, twist, or break a soul.
Look to the Savior – then the true growth begins.
He knows us, our best selves, He can bring us to our fulfillment.
If mortal hands can take rubble and rebuild it into an holy edifice, imagine what the Great Jehovah can do with our lives. He can fulfill our personal rescue.

GuestBrother Uchtdorf just delievered one of the most beautiful sermons I have ever heard. It is Christianity. April 3, 2016 at 5:54 pm #310422Anonymous
GuestTears here also. His is an example of how you make people want to become better. I so wish more people would take note. His talk last night was also amazing.

GuestShawn I am with you on this. Quote:Brother Uchtdorf just delievered one of the most beautiful sermons I have ever heard. It is Christianity.
I seriously thought that was the Mormonism I would find as an adult.

GuestOh, how I wish I would hear more talks about hope and salvation through Christ and fewer about prophets and temples. I am a lost soul and a broken vessel. I hope God can save me. I am sorry to go negative here but I need to unload. I work in the heart of Utah County and the new Provo Temple has been all the buzz. Clients talk about it and I say, “Yep, it sure is a nice
building.” I went through it during the open house and thought, “I wish I could have the money spent on just that door knob and those door hinges so I could fix my truck and pay off some credit card debt.” The opulence is disturbing. I don’t care about what the Old Testament says regarding all that was spent on building Solomon’s Temple. “They rob the poor because of their fine sanctuaries… ” -2 Nephi 28:13
I need to hear more about the simple Gospel of Jesus Christ. I really have very little hope and I am headed toward being atheist.

GuestGod bless you, Shawn. Pres. Uchtdorf’s message was powerful, and it can be for everyone: those who recognize its power for their own lives and even those who do not recognize their need for it. [Admin Note]: This thread will not end up being about temples. This post is about GC.

GuestIve not noticed before but it was nice that the Q15 walked off the stand with their wives. Ive never seen that before, it looked like their wives were also sitting on the stand. Pres. Monson kissed the hand of Sister Ballard I think. I appreciated that. April 3, 2016 at 6:21 pm #310427Anonymous
GuestPresident Uchtdorff’s message was ultimately one of compassion. I agree with Shawn that we need more talks about compassion and love than temples and prophets. We need more talks about tolerance and charity than we do about tithing and sacrament meeting attendance. We need more talks about charity and hope than we do about genealogy and priesthood keys. That’s my two cents worth.

I agree. If we spent more time feeling messages like Uchtdorf’s I believe we would find the better angels of our nature, and all the other lists would get fulfilled automatically. I really do believe that.

I believe that too, mom3. Start with the basics of love and charity,( Christ did say the greatest commandment was love) and the rest will follow. Pres. Uchtdorf emphasized this in both of his talks the last couple of days. He gets it.

GuestAmen, mom3 – and amen. April 3, 2016 at 6:53 pm #310431Anonymous
GuestI normally would not recommend skipping sessions of GC, as a rule, but those of you who were moved deeply by Pres. Uchtdorf’s talk and might struggle with the last session (like Moses coming off of Sinai and seeing his idolatrous people) might want to consider skipping the last session today. Ending GC on such a high note is not a bad idea.

GuestHave there been any sightings of either RDH or JRH? They weren’t seated on the stand during the sustaining of authorities and didn’t seem to be later when I caught a far away glimpse of the seats. Is this due to health? Or is this a case of always keep two of the apostles away in case of disaster? In the distant past, they used to have two apostles preside in the Assembly Hall, but it seems to me this has gone away since GC moved into the Conference Center. I wonder about health because neitehr RDH nor JRH seems very healthy to me. RDH has looked emaciated for the last couple years and JRH… well, he always seems overly… robust… to me.
Just curious.
