I agree with you all that we need more talks like Pres. Uchtdorf’s and far fewer about other things. It was his words about hope that brought me to tears.

As a side note, and not trying to derail, my son who lives in Provo expressed some surprise that the Provo Temple has not been a topic of discussion because it is so pervasive there. He also expressed surprise that none have mentioned the injured missionaries. He also pointed out that there have been no porn talks. There is still a whole two hours to go though. I tend to miss a large part of the last session because I make dinner. I may just work a little slower and a little longer on it today.

Elder Hales – Holy Ghost. I sense some tenderness in the talk.

    Elder Robert Hales (Q12):

Speaking as a great-grandfather – The light of Christ is given to all, everywhere, but the Holy Ghost is different. Standard talk about the Holy Ghost.

Use agency, study it out in our minds, then pray. Not given to control us or give guidance on every decision in our lives. Agency still is important.

We experience the Holy Ghost individually and differently. We cannot receive revelation for others. Example of young man who said someone should marry him due to revelation.

The leadership receives revelation in the same pattern as everyone else. (This is an important statement.)

We need to lead with charity. (paraphrased 1 Corinthians 13)

Personal examples of inspiration throughout his life. One story in particular, about a recently returned missionary, was touching.

Hales is really showing his age. :(

I feel like this is the closest thing we’re going to get to a defense of the November policy.

Elder Gong referenced Kierkegaard. Love the use of non-lds references.

He (Christ) knows all the things about us, that we don’t want anyone else to know, but he loves us anyway.

Great story about Woman who might have lost a job. Then the man who was going to sign her off, came by years later, she did better than he did.

Much about this one I like. Invitations.

    Elder Gerritt Gong (Q70):

Remembering and forgetting are part of everyday life and our eternal journey.

    1) Have confidence in his covenants, promises, and assurances.

    2) Acknowledge his hand throughout our lives, especially in hindsight. Life is understood looking backward. We are our own books of remembrance. We can be the one people remember from when they needed help.

    3) Trust in repentance – that the Lord will remember our sins no more. Repeated confession is not necessary. God knows everything we don’t want others to know and forgives us, anyway. Sometimes, the strength we desire is not within us, but we can pray for it and remember the Savior.

    4) Remember he always welcomes us home. Don’t stop searching until you arrive. Do all good things, again, for the first time. We each grow through our imperfect participation.

    5) Partake of the sacrament.

    6) Remember that He always remembers us and invites us to seek him personally. Jesus’ crucifixion scars are a part of his perfected, resurrected body, because they are a core part of who he is.

    Elder Patrick Kearon (Q70):

    Quote:

Inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

There are many millions of refugees currently in the world, and half of them are children.

I am SO happy this talk is being given. Ecstatic, actually.

We don’t have to look back far to see when we, as a people, were refugees.

What if their story were our story? It is, not that many years ago.

This talk is not about immigration policy; rather it is about people.

Jesus was a refugee. He repeatedly taught us to love one another as He loved. Visit people in their affliction.

This is a fabulous talk. I am going to listen and stop taking notes.

Patrick Kearon – Beautiful British accent. If DRU gets sick, Kearon can read announcements in his place.

His Topic – Refugee’s. Opening with “When saw we thee in prison and visited then, naked and clothed, hungry and fed? When ye have done it unto the least of these my brethren – ye have done it unto me.”

Highly charged arguments between politics or policies. This talk is not about that – this talk is about helping the people who were torn from their countries by wars they didn’t start. –

The Savior was a refugee. He taught from his own knowledge, to love others, to give to those who dislike you.

He cheers on the Saints in Europe who have helped Refugee’s generously. From Scotland to Sicily have helped. Doctors, care kits, teaching languages.

Crying too hard to write now. I will be reading this one again and again.

I am loving his strength. I can’t quote it fast enough. And of course he wraps with my favorite scripture, “For God hath not given us the Spirit of Fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

    “Our response will define us.”

    Love this talk.

Dieter Uchtdorf is crying and can barely conduct following Elder Kearon’s talk. I can’t stop crying either.

I picked up on Uchtdorf’s emotion as well. That of itself was moving, not to take anything away from Elder Kearon.

I also noted a quote in Elder Gong’s talk attributed to Joseph Smith about him not being prefect but the revelations were. I want to look up the reference when the talk is printed. I recognize such a quote might be troublesome to some because they don’t believe the revelations are all perfect, but the assertion that JS was not perfect in a GC talk is important.

It’s an Oaks talk. Best description I have. Topic Opposition.

    Elder Dallin Oaks (Q12):

Opposition as central to the Plan of Salvation. To be tested, agency is necessary, and choices must be from opposing options.

Quotes words to Jacob from Book of Mormon. We are to act for ourselves.

Standard LDS talk so far. Good message, overall; standard framing. In other words, what mom3 said.

Church is trying to make all documents transparent and available. I appreciate that statement, even if the “no loyal opposition” quote is rough. I also dislike the comparison of people dying in the Brussles attack and the missionaries only being injured.
