I thought it was two generations ago that was chosen. Seems God can’t make up his mind.
I guess it beats old people up there complaining, “Kids today…” That song in both words and melody is inspiring and a most beautiful tribute. My own experience. Henry B. Eyring Eyring did what Nelson asked us to do to prepare for conference.
I lost the pulse of this talk but I did not like one part where Eyring said (paraphrased off memory) that Joseph knew he had to find the true church to gain forgiveness. Forgiveness does not come from a church.
There were many us vs. them references.
Saturday Morning recap: Outside of Rasband’s talk this session was very Joseph Smith/Nelson centric. No real surprises there given the announced theme, just something to be aware of going in.
I have to say this session has exactly met my expectations. What more could I possibly desire? ETA, the closing hymn is another fav. (Come Thou Fount)

Yes, Joseph mentions in the other accounts that he was forgiven then and there.
What Eyring said implies that we (you and me) need a true churchin order to obtain forgiveness. I’ll have to go back and read it when transcripts come out to see what was actually said but I’ll leave it at, “I don’t care for that message.” Quote:need a true church in order to obtain forgiveness.

That’s my take on what he said as well.

Thank you Bishop Causse for bringing a focus on the Savior into the meeting. Best talk of the day so far IMO. His talk is about how the BoM testifies of Jesus Christ. It’s much more about Christ than the BoM. Yeah, we’re only 30% into conference, but I got a vibe that may explain the theme of conference. April 2020 conference is like a 10 hour missionary discussion.
I’m sure leaders decided to take advantage of the 200th anniversary of the first vision and all, but all the messages feel like things that missionaries would teach investigators during discussions.
Maybe I’m way off but usually conference feels much more insular, talks by Mormons for Mormons. This go-round I get the feeling that it’s some combo of:
1) Giving the world the missionary discussions. Maybe leaders thought that more non-member eyes would be on this conference.
2) Giving members a refresher on the very basics of the church. Maybe leaders feel people are leaving the church because they don’t have a strong enough testimony or knowledge in these things that they are covering.
It’s also interesting that thus-far the planned theme of the restoration wasn’t set aside in favor of addressing more recent current events.
Liked the story of the grandfather and grandson sharing the heart (paraphrasing of course). I like real-world stories. I know sometimes they are embellished a little but what isn’t?
