There you have it. Session is over. Re-splitting the hair of women having access to the PH but not holding offices in the PH – though one interpretation of the remarks (which seem to beat around the bush) is that in the future the church may be more open to women officiating in the PH under the direction of a man holding the keys? And another talk reiterating gender roles.
But hey, a new logo.
Not the new initiative I was expecting. It has been a while with the now old logo though. We wouldn’t need another worldwide fast if the first one worked. Newsflash: this one won’t work either. 😈 On a more positive note, RMN did broaden the definition of what constitutes a fast to be less Pharasaical and more in line with what other Christians believe fasting is. FWIW the Jewish “law of the fast” has nothing to do with answers to prayer and everything to do with helping those in need (which we call fast offerings).
I’m kinda dumbstruck. It’s like a session that didn’t even happen. A logo and a fast. That’s something that can be handled in an email.
In my mind there’s one talk from each session:
Saturday morning: James R. Rasband
Saturday Afternoon: Gérald Caussé
Saturday night: Gong
The youth speakers did a good job. I’m surprised that with the virus, they didn’t excuse them from their assignment. Our state is in lock down. My daughter lives in Utah & there are “hot spots” where she lives. I’m not sure what that means. But, our state really reinforces the need to stay
home unless there is a critical need. For example, food, medicine, doctor’s visit, like that.

Still… I wish the call to fast came along with some practical advice, like take social distancing seriously. People in my neighborhood are still going over to friends’ houses to hang. The highway near my house still has way too much traffic going up and down it.
I was hoping that top leadership would snuff out some local leader’s attempts to figure out how to get sacrament to people via personal visits. That’s still a thing in some areas and it could be ended with a 10 second sentence in general conference.

I agree Nibbler, some prophetic guidance on the topic of coronavirus safety would go long way, particularly in Utah which does not have a statewide directive. I think there is evidence social distancing works. I’m also aware that even my own adult children who live in Utah (any many others) do not practice it as we do here. Honestly I think since it has not hit the Corridor in force (yet) the leadership, including Utah political leaders, are not yet taking it as serious as it is. Sister Cordon toeing the line. She’s told this story about Elder Perry word for word before. I don’t get anything out of the, “It’s cool to get to hang out with a celeb” talks but she turned it around and brought the message back to Christ. I was apprehensive at the beginning of Holland’s talk but he has brought it around to be fairly Christ centered. Holland addressing covid-19 and even after we beat this, a focus on continuing the battle against hunger, school shootings, etc. On the other hand, it’s understandable that people have lost a lot of faith/hope in organized religion. I’d ask, does the person that’s lost hope in organized religion bear the sole burden of change or is it a shared responsibility? What has organized religion offered people to cause them to have hope?
So far Holland’s message of hope has been the highlight of this session. Welp, this session did nothing for me, but I do admit that I’m not in the target market. There’s a “new” proclamation, but it’s essentially a paragraph or two out of what was once the 3rd discussion.
Shrugs.
I hear it’s Easter soon. Happy Easter.
