Right now the lady in question is either smarting from the incident and questioning her stance, or she is wondering if the board of Meridian is apostate!
The most positive outcome I’ve seen of this article is that it has been roundly condemned everywhere I participate, including the very ‘orthodox’ MormonDialogue forum. I’m usually in a significant minority with my more ‘liberal’ perspectives but nearly every one of the participants I often ‘cross swords’ with thought that the article was unacceptable.
There were people who are very conservative saying things like “well in that case I guess I’m a liberal mormon too.” It’s made me realise the (somtimes too quiet) majority agree with us more than they agree with her.

Good point, Mackay. Since I’ve been coming here I’ve taken more note of what my member friends say, how they say it, and what they don’t say. I am a bit surprised that what I thought I knew about them I really don’t know, and there might be a lot more questioners out there than I realized.

Because It shouldn’t happen.
None of those things should happen to someone for writing a piece like that, certainly not reflexively and without discussions about why it was such a bad piece and in opposition to the Gospel. Two wrongs don’t make a right, and we talk all the time here about how wrong it is to do that to someone who expresses unorthodox views. If one of us had written a similarly polemic diatribe, we would scream in anger if that person was disciplined for it. It would be hypocritical of us to ask that it be done to her….
Yes.
I just wanted family and leaders to read it coming from a faithful Mormon, not an “apostate.”

GuestI have some other honest questions. I was accused of being an apostate and causing people to leave the church.
Question. Who has caused more people to leave the church? Me or Ms. Hilton?
I was accused of apostasy for belonging to the staylds website. Question. Which website has caused more people to leave the church, meridian magazine, or staylds?
I think these are the kind of things local leaders and members need to really think about, especially when they have local leaders like this RSP that basically declared war on unorthodox members…and it obviously is happening in church and her RS meetings.
Her other articles are almost as sick as this latest one.

Yeah. This really bothered me, knowing how insulting it would come across to you and Sundance.

GuestYeah, Orson, that absolutely was the most ironic line in the entire thing – and the fact that she missed the irony is instructive.

🙂 Fixed my post.
Yeah, here we have mom 3 who is holding on by a thread, a great example of staylds…just trying to make it work, and always still defending the church…and to have to read an insult like the Europe comment.
When I read that comment in the article I vocally said out loud, “(Hilton) what a

GuestCwald, When I read the European travelers were a problem, I was relieved to know that I only shared my trip with you and Jwald. It was comforting to know I still had some respect for others in my life. I am glad that now I can go forward with a fully clean conscience. Oh and for the record – I was in Tacoma last weekend. It might be important to know.

GuestI didn’t have the pleasure of reading the article, probably a good thing I didn’t. I love that Stay LDS is a safe place where we can find balance and humor in such a black and white church. I don’t post very often but I do read the posts as often as I can. Thank you for showing that we don’t have to buy into other people’s views. Had I read that article I would have been a mess, but the posts here remind me that everyone has a different perspective, and some perspectives are just goofy and I don’t need to believe the goofy ones. So thank you everyone for making this site an amazing sanctuary. November 2, 2013 at 12:02 pm #275802Anonymous
GuestI fear for Ray’s daughter. Perhaps we should withdraw all missionaries and members from Europe (although the latter group is suspect too). I’m very suspicious of all Euro Mormons. Jesus himself said –
“Let (s)he who is without sin cast the first stone”
I fear she is guilty of some of the things she accuses us of, i.e. belittling alternative takes and considering them Satanic. To Hell with the Devil!
We must be a broad church. Not too broad as to be stupid and tolerate everything, but broad enough that we don’t end up a robotic cult. Even the GAs have a variety of opinions and beliefs.

GuestForgot to say the only thing worse than going to Europe is visiting Canada… nooooooo!!! They might look like Americans, and sound slightly like them, but nearly the entire north of their country backs onto Russia, and has done since the Russian Revolution, many of them speak French and that’s all we need to know.

GuestDidn’t Mitt Romney serve his mission in France? Hmm…. And worse still Romney Sr served his mission in Scotland. Got to keep a handle on these Euro Mormons…
