GuestYikes! Figure me for saying so, but I don’t feel women are attractive with beards. April 11, 2013 at 12:00 am #267801Anonymous
GuestA woman praying in General Conference makes history. 18 year olds going on missions. Whatever next? I can just see it now… “mormon church calls first bearded GA since George Albert Smith” That’s what I call progress!
BTW, who was the last bearded GA?

GuestDavid o mackay was the first beardless leader of the church. By reading the biography about him I learned that he was VERY much against communism and saw it as pretty much the antichrist. In the culture I come from , beards could be associated with being communist ( not now, but back in the day)… But I’m only speculating.. What do you think, does that seem plausible? I have a pretty big problem with everyone looking/dressing the same. Even behaving the same. There are SO many unwritten rules in the church culture that makes it hard for people to stay. Beards is one of them.

Different motivations for different people.
Same Boat here!!!! her kisses mean way more then my wanting to support my laziness.

GuestBut even with Communism… Mao, Stalin, Khrushchev, Brezhnev, Andropov, Deng Xiaoping, Gaddafi and all the Kims of North Korea have been beardless. True, Castro sports a beard, but his ruling brother doesn’t. Che had one, but not all the time, Ho Chi Minh had one… but it doesn’t really apply….
Ho Chi Minh, Castro and the Ayatollah – vehemently anti-Communist… Karzai, hardly a Commie…
Doesn’t really apply, since few major Communist leaders since Stalin have had beards. Nikita Khrushchev was practically hairless. Only Commie guerillas fit the stereotype. And Muslims.
There’s the Eastern Orthodox church and rabbis (generally bearded), and one recent archbishop of Canterbury but that’s it….

Funny how different all wives are. I have an unruly beard/moustache right now, but never hear a complaint. I figure it is because I was sporting beards on and off while we were dating. She knew what she was getting into, so now I have free reign.
I think the same can be said for my ward. I came into the ward with a Fu Manchu, followed by a beard shortly after. They knew early on what kind of heretic moved into their ward.

I like that idea. My husband has a goatee and wears colored shirts to church sometimes, and is completely oblivious to any cultural standards against both. I like keeping him in the dark!
